Not sure if it's been posted here before, but just saw the Essay 3 video by David Furman: https://nyulocal.tumblr.com/post/2060819 ... definitely

Really well done. Sounds like he would make a great classmate, wherever he ends up. Anyone happen to know if he got admitted to Stern?

Wow - that was amazing! I hope he got in.

And I hope they didn't look at mine right afterwards, that's a tough act to follow.

I have two dogs. A Husky and a Wire Fox Terrier. The Husky I am giving to my parents. I have seen Huskies in Manhattan, but he would be miserable in a tiny apartment.

Very cool video, much better than mine. I wonder how it will reflect that he didn't do it himself though? Anyone with enough money could hire a filmmaker to do something that really stands out, but is that really a good thing to promote from NYU's perspective?

WOW!!! this has nothing to do with Stern...but...What kind of dog is it?! With something that big, your def going to need to live near central park.

I am going to guess some things like a great pryeness maybe? My friends has one and his is about 150 pounds...

Close, he's a Great Dane.

Good luck on the interview!

I have a friend with a Great Dane in the city, and I live with a Husky. It was definitely a challenge to find a nice apartment with a large animal. Buildings that say they are pet/dog friendly are often not so friendly to larger animals. We had to get a little creative to get the apartment we're in now to let us in. I have some tips if you're curious...PM me and I'll fill you in.

Some people must think getting into a good MBA program is akin to hitting the lottery. Almost too much effort went into that video.

Yeah, NYU should focus on the content and not the form, so applicants don't feel like they need to hire creative help just to stay competitive. This particular applicant and/or his helper probably got really into this project, which is really neat to see, but it is above and beyond what is necessary for this part of the application. To me, this video is like getting a perfect score on the GMAT - not sufficient by itself to get admitted to a top school, but it definitely satisfies that requirement of the application.

I applied via consortium, so there was no equivalent of the "essay #3" that you all had to contend with, but honestly, after seeing that submission I'm pretty shocked. How would somebody without the means to buy the necessary equipment, or learn how to use the various editing programs be able to compete? Adcom or not, humans are influenced (even subconsciously) by imagery like that. This format will open a whole can of worms in due time I'm sure.

While essay 3 is certainly critical to the app,i doubt if someone can get in on it alone if the rest of the app is weak.I see essay 3 like an unsolicited Kellogg interview. It at best corrobarates your app ..no means a deal clincher/breaker...I hope so atleast

am i missing something here? i thought the entire application needs to be your own work - including essay 3. it's obvious that this guy had another person draw the entire life story for him (as seen at the end and by the fact that the applicant doesnt seem to have tattoos). he probably also hired a video editor but that's debatable since he might be a video editing guru.

Exactly. I learned Final Cut for this sole purpose, and I'm glad I gained that skill, but it's not even close to the same ballpark. He may or may not have had professional help (my money is on yes). However he clearly didn't do the artwork, which is central to the video.

I don't blame the guy for going all out, and he seems like a cool guy I would like to be in a class with. As mentioned, essay 3 alone likely won't make a weak application, but what I worry about is if something like this would tip the balance between candidates on the bubble (e.g., the seemingly large group of WL'ers).

i still give this guy credit, his idea was phenomenal, he may or may not have had help but he still told his story and crafted a very cool way to do so

one thing he is missing is explosions and pyro..luckily i have those covered
