I got my Status Check email this morning around 9:15AM EST. For those that want to make theories about timing: I submitted on Nov 15 around 3pm EST, my last name starts with A, I sent my GMAT scores to NYU about 2 months ago, and my Essay 3 is a PDF file with pictures and text.

I received my status email at 9:22 am EST today, and I submitted around noon Nov 15. My last name begins with B, I have blue eyes, I'm an Aquarius, and my dog's name is Enzo.

Here's an interesting (non-applications) article related to Stern:

I live about 5 hrs from the NYU "campus". Will it reflect badly if I don't officially visit? I'm a grad student and simply do not have any more time or money to dedicate to campus visits. I've been to NYU before (just not officially), so I know what the area is like. What do you guys think? I'm applying through the consortium.

Hi all,

Need some advice from you all.

Am an International student, thinking about applying to R2. Im fairly happy with my application (GMAT: 710 + 2.5 yrs of work experience leading a team of 5 + Decent recommendations). Should I apply now? Stern recommends that Int'l students should apply in R1. Am targeting to finish my app by 15 Dec. Is this too late?

Help pls.

Considering NYU's 2nd essay prompt; if you are applying to Stern you must go visit, else what can you really write about???

Good luck!

The Round 1 deadline was last week (Nov 15) so you're too late for R1. Deadline for Round 2 is Jan 15.

IMO visiting campus is a bigger factor at Stern than some other schools, but there are certainly people who didn't visit prior to applying and got in. Given that they interview on campus, you will get the opportunity to visit and get the feel should you get an invite. If you absolutely can't go then I think you can still write a compelling essay 2 by discussing your "unofficial" NYU visit, reading student blogs, attending an off-campus info session, listening to Stern podcasts, reaching out to current students in your field (this can be huge), etc.

Having said all that, personally I have visited campus 3 times and I live in Toronto. But Stern is my #1 choice so I'm pulling out all the stops for this app.

If you're asking if R2 is too late to apply, I would say it depends. One reason to apply R1 is for priority consideration for an off-campus interview. If you can interview in NYC then this isn't such a big deal. Another reason is for visa considerations should you get accepted. Bottom line is R1 is a recommendation, not a requirement, so you at least have a shot in R2.

If you are definitely planning to go somewhere this year, then sure why not apply. If you're on the fence and might wait until next year, then if Stern is a top choice you might want to hold off and wait until next year.

In any event, as Stern doesn't have rolling admissions, submitting Dec 15 won't get your app reviewed any earlier than if you submitted, say, Jan 8th.

Thanks for your help!

Stern is definitely one of my top 5 universities, simply because of its strong Finance background!!

About the rolling bit, I thought Stern Does have rolling applications. I found this link which was speaking about stern:

https://businessmajors.about.com/od/admi ... erview.htm

Here they talk about International Students and recommend Dec 1. Im worried that Dec 15 will be too late. I really dont want to rush my application.

Dude, that interview is waaaay outdated. I would refer primarily to the Stern admissions website for info: https://www.stern.nyu.edu/AcademicProgra ... /index.htm

They have rolling notifications, so they send out notifications once an application has been reviewed, but they unequivocally don't review received applications prior to the relevant deadline. Some are of the opinion that submitting prior to the deadline will result in your application being reviewed earlier than if you had submitted on the deadline, which is why I said Jan 8th is latest it might make a difference, but in any event it won't be reviewed prior to the deadline.

There has been some discussion of this issue earlier in this thread, you might want to browse through from the beginning.

I would wait for 10 business days i.e till 30th November.

P.S: I haven't received my status change mail yet.

More for last years thread:

- Looks like re-applicants are read first.
- A mail with a link and username/password to the status check website will be sent once the application has been received (We should be getting these starting today)
- First interview reported: Nov 24th (For a re-applicant)
- First acceptance: Dec 19th (regular applicant)!!
Does this mean that once the deadline has passed that Stern reviews and notifies on a rolling basis? Has this changed for this year?
