NYU's admission rate of the interviewed is close to 60%. It is also conducted by adcom, NOT 2nd year students or alumni. This makes the interview more of a "check mark" than "part of the selection process." A school cannot rely (hopefully) on a 2nd year student's interview as a major part of the decision process.
For the most part, I think making to the interview means your scores, W/E, GPA, essays are fine. Some students could still make to the interview by having weak GMAT/GPA and a really intesting experience (W/E and extracurricular).

This is a good point. Do we know whether getting an interview means the school is 100% okay with your scores, GPA, work experience, etc. and the interview and only the interview is the remaining factor? Or, after interviews do they continue to judge your application as well?

I would be devestated too if i get dinged after interview. because what the heck could it be then? i thought they have to like your application enough to interview you to begin with!
hang in there....
