Indian Applicant waitlisted.

730/m/Financial Operations.
submitted 11/11.

Btw something very funny to report. My YouTube video (Essay 3) has not had a single view since I submitted the application. This makes me think that initial filtering is on the basis of core factuals rather than essays. If it is so, then this is a complete game-changer.

Just logged in to check my status and got the waitlist notice (w/o interview). I didn't get an email yet about my status changing, so it seems like there is a definite lag between when they change the status and when the email goes out.

That's really interesting. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Suggests that it would be wiser to send something they don't have to go to any extra effort to look at/listen to, i.e. an essay or something physical....

My video essay was viewed once Nov. 25 and again Dec. 20. I submitted 11/15 and was WL'd today.

That's at least slightly reassuring... I wonder how many submitted video essays though - I kind of thought that since it's the first year they've allowed it not all that many people would think to do it. Naive!

p.s. another waitlist... I don't know if that's congrats or hard luck? Hopefully you'll get that situation you described earlier in the thread where one offers and then you can call up the other feeling pretty good about your options.

Check your spam folder? Sometimes the update email can end up there. I received mine few hours after I checked my status online.

The WL thing is funny... when I got WL'd by Yale, it gave me a sense of relief and happiness as it confirmed that I'm in the ballpark. The second WL is a much different experience  Arrrrrrrrgh

Can totally understand that, you just never know where you stand until you've had some sort of feedback so it must be good to know you're there or thereabouts, but then once the expectations are raised....!

Congrats anyway, and good luck.

I think that when they chose to allow something, they would assume a scenario where most students would start doing that. e.g. - If they thought of allowing live presentations by applicants, they would immediately reject it. So it would be greatly unfair to allow something and not give it value. I doubt NYU would do such a thing, but I am too scared to ask the adcom about it...

Also, IMO a video is easier to go through and critique than an essay

True. I took the liberty of starting a Stern WL thread: calling-all-nyu-stern-fall-2011-waitlisters-107660.html

I doubt if they read every essay of every applicant. It wouldn't be practical. When one applies for jobs, do the recruiters read every resume in its entirety? People form opinions with partial bits of information. Screening happens everywhere.

It's really funny that you mentioned "being in the ballpark", those are the same exact words I've been using since yesterday to explain why I am not so demoralized. But it is my first one...
