Hi all!

This thread (and GMAT Club) has been my anchor while everything else is so much in limbo. I am a frequent visitor (and reader), sparse poster as I am usually tangled up at work! I appreciate everyone for all the information shared and congrats to those admitted.

I got my interview invite last week and am interviewing in two weeks. I know that NYU is not a blind interview and they've read and know everything about you.

So my question is this - how do you go beyond the text in your essays? Especially for the why NYU part? I exhausted most of my sources and information to answer the Why NYU question so how do I approach this question when asked it again in-person?

Interview Invite: 1/5/11

Don't worry, they know you exhausted your research for that essay. In an interview, what you say is almost less important than how you say it. It is ok to say some of the same things you mentioned in the essay, but just really convey the enthusiasm that only a face-to-face interaction can. I just had my interview today, and the guy really wasn't probing. I reiterated some of the stuff I talked about in my essay, and he didn't give me any kind of "bored" feeling. I of course also looked at the website to add some more details but...I wouldnt worry about it too too much.

Josiebella - thank you - that was a very helpful response. I am SO nervous about the interview (especially because they continue to have that annoying waitlist decision even after you've interviewed). Do you have any idea how many people they admit post-interview?

And I hope you hear good news from Stern very soon!

It seems like the NYU interview is more about getting a feel for your personality rather than reiterating the stuff they already know. If there's anything unclear in your app I'd imagine they'll ask you about it too. As jb mentioned, be enthusiastic!

Does anyone know if NYU does a mass ding / W/L day for R1 or trickle them out till Feb 15th?

Last year, a bunch of dings/WLs starting came out 2nd week of Jan, and then it was pretty quiet until Feb 2/3, when another batch came out.

Agreed...I did the same......dunno about other people but NYU's app site was very slow for me. I guess they are uploading a bunch of ding's and W/L's.

It seems that if you get WL'd at NYU it's more often w/o interview. There have been exceptions though. The dings last year were both. Interestingly, last year there were a few people dinged or invited to interview from R2 prior to some people from R1.

My speculation running wild - Guess that's why NYU has the longest waiting time (3 months) after deadline in order to select applicants from Rd 2 before rejecting applicants from Rd 1....

Roughly 60% are admitted after interview...per businessweek.
