Yep, this application is already driving me a little crazy (ok, I didn't start completely sane...)

I haven't confirmed with one recommender yet, and the other one is on a short timeline. Now I see that I have to enter both at the same time. Hmm...

And the navigation (one page at a time) is not really great. Why not use the 'apply yourself' system that everyone else uses?

Heck, to go totally off the reservation, why don't all the schools used the same system for the general info, then we add essays on a by-school basis? :wtf: ... Clearly I'm cracking up ... OK end of rant!

hmm, after working some more on the application, I still can't find the page where it asks for extracurricular activities. I just can't really fathom the idea of a b-school not wanting to know what its applicants do outside of work. Can anyone help with some clarification? This is for the MBA application, not anything else.

That is odd, indeed. Since I don't have access to the application itself, I would recommend that you contact Ross admissions. They should be able to provide you with more directions on how to include that (important) piece of information with your application.

Considering I've done absolutely nothing for the essays, I think I'll be in R2.

That makes it tough to get everything on a one page resume. Of course, the essays can be used to discuss extracurriculars, as well.

Well, one of the special things about Ross is that it allows a 2-page resume. So if that were the case, I'm pretty sure that most people will be able to fit their extras/honors on the second page of the resume.

Yes, my honors will fit quite neatly on two pages... or less...

That said, I don't think my college extracurriculars have any place on a resume -- could it be that Ross just doesn't care that we coordinated a Habitat for Humanity trip a decade ago???? Oh happy day!

I highly recommend against 2 page resumes. The standard is definitely a 1 page resume and part of the challenge of a resume is being concise and to the point. I understand that some people will require too, but those people are rare and in most cases I would say they are also the people who don't need resumes and don't need to apply to business school such as CEO's, heads of states, academic scholars etc.

Be concise!

I think what the adcom told me was that people should put any extracurricular activities and honors on their resume. If this were true, I actually think that it'll be super easy to have your resume spill over onto the second page. I'm just imagining my current resume and how I can probably shed 2/3 of it off because I wanted to 'beef' it up. But even then, I will still have trouble putting all the notable activities I've led without going to the second page (assuming I put each as a line item). Am I the only who's having a bit trouble with this?

bakfed, I understand where you are coming from.
I've solid extra curricular leadership and wanted to list the achievements related to them which would easily spill into 2 pages. I've decent depth of hobbies too which would add more content.
However, a friend of mine from hbs suggested that I restrict the resume to 1-page.
So, I changed my EC to small section and discussed relevant achievements in the essays to trim my CV to one page. So, as challenging as it might seem to have a 1 page CV, it is possible.

I've learned that the key thing in the application process it to convey only our key accomplishments although we've lot many more good experiences.

Hope this helps!

I've had 5 jobs since graduation...I have enough trouble getting my work experiences alone down to one page. Luckily, (I guess) my extracurriculars are fairly light.

And remember that they explicitly ask for a resume and not a CV. A CV would certainly be two or more pages, whereas a standard American resume is one page.

Can anyone shed light on the level of spouse/family support in Ross and childcare centres in AA?

My impression is that Ross is fairly typical among top programs. There is a very active student group for MBA students with kids, and the camaraderie and commiseration among MBAs with kids is strong and helpful. It's also really great that the majority of MBAs with kids live in the same neighborhood within Ann Arbor (Woodbury Gardens), which is super kid-friendly and convenient for socializing with other parents.

However, there is little institutional support directly from the school for students with kids. There is a childcare subsidy (something like $3,000 per year if you're a single-parent or your partner works at least 20 hours per week), but US Dept of Education guidelines prohibit the inclusion of childrearing costs into official "Cost of Attendance" figures used for determining student loans amounts/eligibility (which means people have to 1) dip into savings, 2) rely on spousal income, or 3) take out consumer loans/credit card debt to pay for childrearing expenses while in school).

Any idea on the length of the cover letter for reapplicants? I applied in round three last year. If I apply in round 1 now, I won't have much to write but if I apply in round 2 then I will have too much to write if the cover letter should be just one page long.

same note - do most successful reapplicants write one or more essays?

even though they do not ask for it, is doing so a "requirement"?
