Just a brief note, I also was invited to interview back in 11/12 and it took a while to match interview dates with busy almunus interviewer in my area. Only few alumni present, so not spoiled for much choice either. The interview took place 2 weeks ago. Interviewer from different industry and business function, so not much career match. Most questions were in line with aforementioned summaries from other posters. Interviewer was fair, though he drilled in depth why MBA, teamwork experience, solving adversity, possible contributions to class, outreach to Ross community in my research and why specific post MBA goals. In the end, I ask a few prepared questions regarding classes (staff and curriculum changes since his days) and his impresssion at Ross.

I am a newbie, it was my first interview and it wasn't a slam dunk. I left with iffy feeling that I could or should have done better in some aspects of my presentation. Interviewer kept cards close to the chest and didn't show much encouragement like some other posters experienced. I still believe that Ross would be a good fit for my goals and shall await with keen anticipation the outcome.

Did you do background checks on your alum choices? Like what their field is etc? I did on mine and i avoided hardcore finance guys and went for female alum who has a field that shares some similarities to mine.

vikx13,

You are welcome. You have an unusual Diebels pic, good taste though. I ordered it in a pub once when abroad and you don't find this diebels brand outside Germany that much unlike Becks. Lovely frothy lager with a slightly bitter taste. If I had to chose a beer logo, I would go for Jever or Warsteiner. They are delicious too, but not so international. Czech beers are also good.

Needless to say, Czech rep. and Germany have one of the highest beer consumption per capita in the world.

Smart move to target match with interviewer to get some empathy. Of course I did research my possible interviewers' backgrounds, but faced some parameters. As non traditional candidate, a match of same background with interviewer is virtually slim. Small number of Ross Alumni in my country, most work in finance/consulting/MNC and maybe 1-2 enterpreneurs. As mentioned, some were travelling and I came like a country bumpkin by train into the big city for my Ross intervierw with some big shot alumnus. Beggars can't be choosers and alumni interview is still preferable to phone interview for me.

My interviewer would be a formidable poker player as he gave nothing away. He would clean the floor with one if one played cards against him. Normally, I do read my counterpart's body language for small signs.

Interviewed on campus last Monday. The new building is truly amazing and it was great to see everyone in action. There was a real energy buzzing in the building that just got you excited about the prospect of going there. The wait is down to 24 days...

I'll add that my interviewer was very conversational; the most of all my interviews. He opened by saying that he doesn't know how much of a factor the interview even is but that it was primarily for me to learn about his experience and for him to see if Ross would be a good fit for me. Interview went well but I imagine it will neither help not hurt me.

Some int'l guy (won't say what country) was bashing other schools during my visit to Ross.

It's one thing to talk up schools during interviews/visits. It's another to bash other schools and talk trash.

Coming into my visit, I was worried about the impression I'd make, etc, but with the size of of the group (about 20) and the lack of writing materials on the part of the staff, I quickly realized you could probably do nothing positive for yourself outside of signing in. On the other hand, I think being blatently rude or disrespectful of others could ultimately land you in hot water. Nobody wants to admit a jerk. There are enough people with high GMAT scores to go around.

Well said Piggles. Ad-com is not going to say "Wow, Joe said something really smart on the tour and seems like a great guy. I better note that down for later when I see his app". To extend this, company presentations for recruiting are exactly the same. Depending on the firm, there will be 5 - 15 people standing around one representative. There is no way you can make a solid impression in a setting like that. You can only hurt your chances. Use the tour and the school visit in general to determine whether you like what you see at Ross. If you manage that without saying/doing something retarded, mission accomplished.

On a side note, the prospectives that I am most impressed with are those who research a club/activity they are interested in before the visit, and try to set up a one-on-one meeting/coffee/lunch with an officer of that club. I would say this is one of the more efficient ways to get to know the school.

That's exactly what I did everywhere. I talked to military candidates about the school in general and managed to meet and talk with one or two other people (military or otherwise) that were in my program of interest.

They have officers' email addresses on club sites for a reason.

For use of future interviewees please see the interview-connected advice from Soojin Kwon Koh, Director of Admissions at Michigan Ross https://www.bus.umich.edu/Admissions/Mba/apply/news/apptipfive.htm.

At the end of the that page there are also links to other advices that will be useful for any future applicants who not submitted their applications yet.
