In other humorous news:
Some int'l guy (won't say what country) was bashing other schools during my visit to Ross.
It's one thing to talk up schools during interviews/visits. It's another to bash other schools and talk trash.
That's very odd. Was this a current Ross student or a prospective student?
Just throwing out a different perspective here. Compared to a lot of other countries, the U.S. has a very strong culture of political correctness. In some countries I grew up in, it's common for people to criticize more than Americans usually do. There's nothing wrong about it. People are just being honest. And in some cultures people tend to focus more on negatives and shortcomings rather than positives.
I agree. US is full of optimism and that is why I like living here so much! In other countries, and particularly my home country, people sit together and *complain* about other people...he is like this, she is like that...that is their favorite pastime. But in US people hang out and chat about TV shows, football/baseball/basketball games and food/dishes and share their experiences...judgmental statements are not that common and neither appreciated.
US offers different things for people of different likings. That prospective student did not understand that. If s/he likes, say, college towns then s/he need not bash Stern or Columbia to prove his/her point. By bashing other schools on US soil s/he has shown that s/he does not have "cultural sensitivity".
danred opined that there is nothing wrong with criticizing others in the name of honesty. I disagree, it's emotional abuse. Besides, lot of emotional energy gets spent on dealing with criticism instead of achieving efficiency.
Optimism is very powerful, I can say this with my own experiences.
