My former manager told me that he'll submit his recommendation today. Will this impact my application which was submitted on time?

Yay, my manager submitted his letter of recommendation. My application is fully complete! I hope this did not substantially delay my application.

How do I check to see if my manager's recommendation is included properly into my application? The website says:
Code:
Submission Status: Submitted
Submitted Date: 1/6/2010 6:45:00 PM E.S.T.

My quants and verbal percentiles are at 93 and 92 respectively and my overall is 97 percentile.

But my AWA (a 4.5 :-( ) is at  just 37 %ile.
Any ideas on how my GMAT is going to be viewed holistically ?

You'll be okay. A 740 is a great score, and you have very high - and balanced! - percentile ranks on the quant and verbal, which is what schools really care about. I've heard from a number of sources that anything below a 4.5 on the AWA is trouble, but I think you're going to be fine with the score you have. The writing schools really care about is your essays. (Although if your essays are like mind-poppingly awesome, they may question whether, given your AWA score, you got too much help writing them.)

Good luck! Don't worry.

Thanks Aenigma! But see, this is what worries me. I've heard (only too late) that AWA can be cracked easily by following certain pre-defined templates. After hearing that, I was in 2 minds whether to re-take the GMAT just for the sake of a better AWA. Although I didn't go for it, I feel really bad for having such a low percentile just because I didn't know about a 'template' I could have followed :-(

You have an awesome GMAT score that most envy. I wouldn't worry about your AWA if your essays are good. I think more weight is placed on Q and V rather than on AWA.

I'm really glad you didn't retake the GMAT for a better AWA. With a score like yours it's not even remotely worth it. I'm positive that a 4.5 on the AWA per se will not keep you out of any school. Be proud of your great performance and focus on the things that really matter.

haha.. working on some hbs essays and am getting my fix of junky pop music with this Kesha singer's album... anyway, there's a song called Stephen... but if you swap out Stephen for Derrick in the chorus.. it pretty much captures the feeling of waiting for his call.

"You're my object of affection
My drug of choice
My sick obsession

Derrick
Why won't you call me?
I'm sitting here waiting
Why won't you call me?
Derrick
I'm feeling pathetic
I can't take rejection
Why won't you call me? "

Yeah, Derrick Bolton is the head of admissions at the GSB... he calls all admitted students the night before the official decisions are released. it's brutal if you don't get the call.

wait so your saying if you've made the cut, the day before its official, the head of admissions gives you a call? wow.

what if you they haven't decided yet and the decision date passes but you're still in limbo? does he still call you the day before they change the status from limbo man to admitted man?

I think it's pretty rare that they haven't made up their minds by the time decision day comes up. If you're admitted you find out the night before. If you don't get a call, the best you can hope for is waitlist (which is what happened to me last year).

If I remember correctly, the handful of people that got in off the waitlist got calls from Derrick as well.

This is of course in contrast to hbs and wharton where they start making calls AFTER decisions are released. Much more humane in my opinion.
