I'm gonna go out on a limb and call this a pattern for current invites.

I'm throwing a flag for seeing a pattern in too small a sample...

Fair enough. Just passing time, I guess.

The invite reads...

Dear xx Esom xx,
The Stanford MBA Admissions Office would like to extend an invitation for you to interview with one of our alumni. In coordinating these meetings, we do our very best to match you with a GSB alumni in your local area. Unfortunately, we have had difficulty locating someone in your area. Please let us know to what extent you would be willing to travel for an interview (you can list either cities or a reasonable distance you would be willing to travel). Alternatively, your interview can be conducted over the telephone. Your admission decision is not affected by the method by which your interview is conducted.
Please respond to this message at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your continued interest in the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Warm Regards,

xxxx, Evaluation Manger

GO ESOM!...... GO ESOM!...... Congratulations! My advice from my experience last year is to be yourself (really) and to be very prepared to explain WHY you did all of the great things you've done.

GOOD LUCK! 8-)

7 out of 9 invitations that I've seen on here have been internationals, the other two I'm not sure of their nationalities, but they do seem to have American connections (one living in NYC and the other is a Stanford alumnus). Perhaps the sample is too small to say definitively that there is a trend, but I think you need to back off those who are suggesting there is one. Lots of other factors could be at work here (yeah, yeah... don't confuse patterns with causation), but when it comes to the speculation on these boards, I think this at least has some data to suggest it may be the case.

Oh, and congratulations, Esom!

Oh, and congratulations, Esom!

This is why we have Fisher's Exact Test! I did a back of the envelope run at it based on the google doc, and we can reject at p=.0046 the null hypothesis that geography plays no role in who has gotten interviews so far.

Three cheers for false precision as a coping mechanism!

And congrats all.
