I am also 29 and also worried that I am too old for GSB. Already dinged by HBS.
My stats: 3.9 Harvard GPA, Summa Cum Laude, 4.0 Graduate GPA; 740 GMAT; 800/800 GRE. Have those of us over 28 just missed our chance by virtue of age?

when i did my analysis for hbs, matriculating at age 29 (applying at 28) would place me older than 95% of the class

blog https://www.hbs.edu/mba/admissions/blog-all.html

matriculating at 30, or gasp 34, would make you the older than 99% of the class. i knew this but i still applied anyway ;)

id wager GSB is very close to HBS in who they take in.

anything outside the ideal age, race, sex, gmat, gpa, work experience, extra-curriculars will lower our chances.

Age is an important consideration, but it is by no means an automatic ding e.g., the 1994 grad the HBS age distribution link. I didn't see a similar age distribution at stanford, but there are likely similar stories.

Outside of the $250 + work to put together the app + anxiety.. it's essentially a risk-free bet.
We all made it together.. let's hope it comes through.

It's kind of counter-intuitive though.. I agree. We think if we work hard and put in our best effort, we can achieve anything. This is true to a point. Luck and randomness have a role as well... sucks, but that's the way it is.

Keep your head up! I'm 29 as well and I don't consider myself "too old" at all. I haven't wasted my years of work experience and I strongly feel that I'm much more ready now for b-school than I was several years ago. My background isn't in any sort of feeder industry/company but I did get the opportunity to interview with HBS recently. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Stanford also allows me to opportunity to talk with them.

Your profile is outstanding and I'm sure you'll end up at an amazing school either way. Best of luck!

What does everyone think, is this the week for the first big batch of US interview invites? Next week? Anyone else get invites recently?

Clear admit says:
Quote:
The Stanford adcom is scheduled to send out all Round 1 interview invites by November 19th and all Round 1 decisions by December 15th.
so it should be soon...

Throw me into the old age club as well. I just turned 32 and where I feel I am in a MUCH better place to actually get more out of the education now than I was 5 years ago I knew that I was at an age disadvantage. For my stats - 32 yo white male, work in corporate finance/business analysis for a big brand and own a martial arts school, 700gmat, 3.8gpa and played a division 1 sport. Lots of ecs and have a 1 year old son.

Denied from HBS and Wharton, but invites from Chicago & London (self initiated at Tuck). Not particularly hopeful for Stanford, but I think my essays relfected a better fit for that school than say HBS, bc of the smaller class size. But who knows. If I was to guess, more work experience would be more valued at smaller schools (classes under 500 students), by virtue of each individual student making up a greater % of the class population.

The information on clearadmit is incorrect. The Stanford adcom says:

"Interview invitations can be exteded anytime between now and the decision notification date, with all interview invitations most likely extended by early December."
"Since this information is absolutely incorrect we like to be aware of false reporting on different websites."

Based on past trends, there's some truth in both of those statements (Stanford's likely to be completely true). The 19th is the last weekday before Thanksgiving week, a time when admissions staff isn't likely to be sending out invitations.

Unless they're doing things differently this year, it's unlikely that they will send out ALL interview invitations by the 19th. However, we should see a a significant increase from what we've seen so far. Anything you hear at this point is probably speculation, so don't expect to receive accurate information about what percentage of invites will go out by the 19th, etc.

We're almost there!

Last year, it seemed that the majority of invitations to GMATClubbers went out in the week of Nov 16-20th (this year that'd be 15th-19th). There were, however, invitations that went out early in the week after thanksgiving. None appeared to go out the week of Thanksgiving.

Unless they actually have a source, I'd choose to believe Stanford on this one as it matches their past practices. That said, I'd still expect that after November 19th, there won't be a ton of invites.

All speculation, of course. Trend spotting on GMATClub tends to work best for spotting large clumps of invites (e.g. HBS on Oct. 15th) but it's not great at spotting smaller ones.

Hey Jeanette,

To keep us completely on topic, did you know that the only other Jeanette I know is from one of my favorite childhood cartoon movies, The Chipmunks' Adventure. I think she was the leader of the Chipettes (who were the bain of the Chipmunks) and definitely the coolest since she wore rad leg warmers. You'll have to live up to the legacy by showing up in the same style at Admit Weekend (fingers crossed)! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Alright, back to refreshing my inbox....
