I don't recall there ever being a boat, just individual swimmers making a break for it.
When you have a class of under 400 people and interview under 800 and most of those come from round 2, there aren't going to be that many invites for Round 1....not enough to feel like a wave at least (given the small % of applicants who are on this forum)

What's your source that most of them come from Round 2?

Hmm, even if more people apply in Round 2, that doesn't necessarily mean that more people will get interviews in Round 2. For instance, Sloan admits/interviews 2/3 of their class in Round 1 rather than Round 2. Dunno.

I know it is all speculation, but anyone want to make a guess at what % of R1 interview invites have been sent out? 20%? 50%? 80%?

Also, does anyone have a sense of how they read the applications? I know their blog has indicated it is "random"...but it seems strange they wouldn't read in at least some sort of groupings (e.g. consultants all together, bankers all together, interesting people all together, etc). Seems like the only pattern so far, based on this forum, is that there were more international invites early on.

Thanks!

This is from an old 2007 adcom blog post. You can draw your own back of the envelope guesstimate for what it means this year... Best o luck all, plenty of invites left...

Quote:
Think of it this way: the period between 22 October 2007 (when applications were due) and 24 January 2008 (when decisions are due) comprises nearly 14 weeks. Subtract two weeks for the interviews to occur and you have 12 weeks. We're just finishing week six of that 12-week period and will be reading files well into 2008. As we read files we will continue to extend interview invitations. Some days we might invite only two or three people to interview, while other days we might invite 20 or 30. No matter when you receive your invitation, it means the same thing: we consider you a very competitive applicant.

I'm in California and haven't heard anything either....Waiting absolutely sucks. Maybe HBS had a good idea going with their concept of notifying everyone with interviews by an earlier date.

By this logic, that means we are about 60% screwed (or 40% not screwed, if you're that kind of person).

Nope. 75% screwed. Only 10 weeks this time around, not 12.

Even with our small sample size, I don't think we've seen enough invitations released to say that the opportunity has passed everyone by. I'm expecting an increase in invitations throughout the rest of this week and resuming in the week following Thanksgiving.

Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I don't think we've seen a big enough push yet.

I'm hoping that's true because I'm anxiously awaiting as well. I do have a friend in California who got an invite last week. Don't know his stats exactly but I know they're impressive.
