Congrats guys. I'm just starting to calm down after the ding. Right now I'm trying to decide whether to take up HBS on their offer, or wait until next year. Obviously, the down side in waiting is that I might get into neither program next year, especially after forfeiting a spot at Harvard. I'm an engineer and I'm interested either in entrepreurship or venture capital post-MBA. I've spoken with a few mentors in the valley, and I've basically been told that Harvard is considered good, but Stanford is considered almost "godly" around that area.

Thoughts?

I live in the bay area and Stanford will afford you the best access, no doubt. That being said, I can't imagine turning down an offer from Harvard for another *chance to apply to Stanford next year. It's not like you are choosing between a top 3 school and a top 30.

Ding--wasn't interviewed or offered waitlist. Interview invite from Haas about an hour later took some of the sting out of it.

I've been trying my hardest to write Essay A for a week now, and nothing seems to be working. There are a lot of tips online about how to write this all-important responses, but I was wondering if there are any sample essays available, so I have some sense of what previous applicants have written. Thanks.

Thanks. I think it will be too difficult to turn down HBS without a backup. I am considering applying for deferral for a year in order to reapply to Stanford. Honestly, I would prefer to have an additional year at work anyways before b-school. It says on HBS website "Postponements and deferrals are rarely granted and are considered on a case-by-case basis". Maybe I have a shot?

Does anybody know the restrictions on b-school deferrals? Would I be forced to sign something which would bar me from applying to Stanford without forfeiting my spot at HBS?

I would not expect a deferral by any means. Unless you have some sort of illness or some other circumstance they won't grant it to you.

R2 applicant here...congrats to all those who've been admitted so far! GSB is my top choice by far but I'm really struggling with Essay A (as I'm sure many of you did as well).

R1 admits, did any of you write about a specific thing that matters most to you (such as country of origin, family, etc) instead of a philosophical/behaviroral trait (such as responsibility, honesty, etc)? I can't point to one abstract concept that's shaped my major life decisions but I can point to one thing I care about most. THANKS!

Does anyone know the name of the case study event where students present and high level exec alumni judge and give feedback? I can't remember what it was called for some reason..

I think you're thinking about the Stanford Executive Challenge.

I've heard on several occasions that Stanford GSB often reviews applications before the R2 deadline. Can anyone comment on that? When I spoke to someone in admissions, they said that "well, yes we have done that in the past. no guarantee for this year though."

Who reads the applications anyways? Do they have external readers?

Is it just me or are most of the boxes for awards and extracurricular sections in the application too small to write anything? For example, in the award section, they limit the name of the award to about 20 chars, which isn’t enough to write for any award.
For those of you that have applied, how do you handle this problem? Do you guys usually include a list of all your activities and experiences in the additional information section? Or do you stick to the blank boxes given?
