Submitted for Round 1. I too had technical issues. Only the first of my essays was uploaded and not all of them. perhaps it was some glitch in the PDF conversion software or the uploading system? I emailed my essays to Stanford just in case. Hopefully they can resolve this issue ASAP.
I didn't know this. What email address did you send your essays to, gkumar?

Hello everyone,

I've tried to stay away from forums -- I know they will make me go crazy again -- but I'm in for Round 1.

This is actually my 3rd time applying to GSB. I applied in 2009 (R1, interviewed and summer waitlisted) and in 2010 (R2, interviewed and dinged). In 2008-09, I didn't think I'd get in with my work experience (or lack thereof), so I just shot high (applied to only GSB and HBS). Last year, I basically submitted the same application to GSB (3 of 4 essays were the same, and the essay I changed pretty much sucked), thinking 2010 couldn't be as competitive as 2009 was; unfortunately, 7500 to 7200 isn't a huge drop in application numbers. Hopefully it's in the low 6000s this year!

I've had a bad taste in my mouth and am regretting not improving my application last year (especially my essays which I feel were sub-par for both years). Since I didn't get into my other top choices last year (Damn waitlists!), I've decided to make a final attempt.

Stats:
Male
GMAT 720
GPA 3.7
3 years WE

Good luck everyone!

No specific dates. Last year interviews trickled in from even before the R1 deadline up until the decision date. Last year, you had 10 days to set up and do your interview.

Ten days is not much time, especially for those not in the Cali area. Isn't that a bit short?

Nah. They do alumni interviews, so most US cities will have someone to interview with, and many international cities will. I think they mention that for certain international people, they can do it by phone.

For example, There's probably an Atlanta interviewer, but if there's not, there's almost certainly one in DC or Charlotte or something.

I believe they are local alumni interviews, in which case they're not expecting you to interview in California.

What do you mean? Matriculating students? Who are those? Us? The Class of 2012?

What do you mean by "a say"?

Do students currently enrolled in the MBA program i.e. class of '11, class of '12 have a say in the class of '13? By "say", I mean do they review applications? Do they conduct interviews? Do they make recommendations? Do they have any level of involvement?

I'm not sure about reviewing applications, but I don't think so. They don't conduct interviews. I'm sure they could make a recommendation, but unless they know you really well and the adcomms have a reason to particularly value it, I doubt it'll help much.

But I guess a better question is why it particularly matters to you unless you have a current student who you want to pump for a rec.

Not that I know of. Judging by last year, Stanford is a lot slower with the invitations than Harvard. Not that they start that much later, but they tend to trickle them out a lot more. I think that has a lot to do with the fact it's alumni doing the interviews rather than the admissions officers. Admissions officers have to plan, travel, etc. so they're on a pretty strict schedule for anyone who doesn't come to Boston. Alumni are usually all over and can be scheduled with a few days notice.

Also, of course, they do fewer interviews, which means fewer invitations, which means fewer happy posts here!

A quick doubt:

I uploaded my resume in a .doc format on the Stanford Application system. However I noticed today that all the fonts of my resume have changed and it looks a bit messy. Please let me know what should I do? Should I mail them my resume again? Would that look negative as it has been a week since the deadline? Please advise.

Thanks,
lostphoton
