It’s a good time to apply if you are interested. Ageism is real for MBA application

I’ve also heard 2 years MBA program offers you more time for internships if you want to change industry completely. lets say from tech to consulting or VC. Is that true? Maybe one year is enough for a career advancement within your current industry unless the person have a cross industry background?

It’s really up to you. How many years of work experience do you have? I do have to say that they don’t usually consider people with 8+ years experience for MBA. They do sometimes but the rate is low

Hi, thanks for your time answering questions. Is the rate low due to lower applications in general or is it more of a class fit decision ?

I agree that a 2-year MBA with a summer internship would be great to pivot to consulting. Not sure about VC though. I’m actually doing a VC fellowship and a part-time internship and I can say that it’s not an industry you can break into following traditional paths. Internship may help but the retention rate is case dependent (and the VC industry is definitely experiencing a hard time now)

Hi Joseph, what is the avg GMAT level for the 1 year programs you mentioned above? I am also concerned about the opportunity cost of a 2 year mba

Both. and class fit may be a stronger factor

For GSB MSx, the average GMAT is 725 for my year. It’s around the same for Kellogg and Sloan Fellow MBA at MIT. INSEAD and other European 1-year MBAs are easier to get into with lower GMAT (690-720)

I also want to add that some of these 1-year programs can be extended for a quarter or two. It’s also something to consider

Yes. In fact, I plan to extend my MSx by a quarter if needed

The flexibility sounds great. That should give you time to cover your coursework+take extra classes+buy time for job hunt, right?

That’s the plan. I’m mainly interested in the entrepreneur immersion/accelerator program offered by GSB that’s only available for the student returning in Fall. You can definitely use it for internships or other purposes too

Hi Joseph, I saw that you got your PhD many years ago before applying to MSx. I also had a non-business master degree from a US university after non-US undergrad study. How will both the graduate school and undergrad GPA considered in the application?

Do you need to prepare both transcripts when applying?

For the folks with an advanced degree, they consider your GPAs from both grad and undergrad programs.

Yes. And they will verify both transcripts from your grad and undergrad schools using Re Vera

Thank you! If a original transcript is not in English, does the admission accept the transcript in original language, or there are other requirements about translation or verification?

I remember that you need to provide Re Vera both the original copy and the translation but I may be wrong. Anyhow Re Vera will contact your school in another country to verify the GPA and degree

Thank you all! If no other questions, I’ll close this session. Hope it helps. Feel free to reach out to me by email/Linkedin
