I applied to MSx R1 on Oct 15 but I still haven't gotten an interview invite. The application decision is on Dec 5 so I guess they decided not to invite me...

Does anyone know how strict the 8 year work experience cutoff is? I will have around 7 years 10 months of work experience next July. I emailed admissions to ask about this, but haven't heard back.

You might want to join an admissions event and raise it there. They aren't quick to respond to emails, unfortunately.

To my knowledge, you might not qualify because you're very much below the low end of range of experience. Average exp for an MSx class is 13.5 years. Also, they might suggest you apply to MBA instead, but it still doesn't hurt to ask.

Any updates on Round 2 MSx updates? Would it be safe to assume that they would be announced on/after 29 Jan 2025 (3 weeks after the Round 2 submission deadline)?

I am, but dont know the chances as yet, little apprehensive, though they say that apply when you feel the application is best but then R3 for international students is a long shot.

I say absolutely go for it if you feel ready. I live in Palo Alto and have been to many events, class visits, online sessions, talked to students/alumni etc. I’ve heard it time and time again they have no preference on which round we apply in. With that being said, and to your point, Kathy in adcom has said the biggest issue is it’ll be rushed to get everything in order to move to Stanford as an international student. It’ll be last minute and probably chaotic on your end.

I am applying in R3 myself.

How many seats are available in R3?

I heard Stanford MSx has only 60-80 seats, so I guess it would be very competitive in R3?

I understand the notification day/result day is the same for R2 and R3. Doesn't that mean R2/R3 are equally rushed?

Applying in R3 as an international student is tough but not impossible. Seats are limited, and visa timelines can be challenging. While Stanford advises applying when your application is strongest, R3 is highly competitive. If your feeling towards your overall application is satisfactory, your GMAT/GRE, essays, and leadership story are great, R3 is worth trying. But if there’s room to improve, whether in test scores, positioning, or impact, waiting for R1 next year could be smart choice. All the very best!
