I'm thinking of putting in a last minute application to Tepper. As a US applicant, will this be possible for me to do? Also, what are the chances that I can get in at this point. My stats are 3.1 from PSU / 2 yrs ibanking / 3 yrs private equity / 720 GMAT / M 28yo. I also grew up in PIttsburgh and attended CMU for one year during undergrad before transferring to PSU due to financial reasons. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
I think you should go for it. Admissions is a total crap shoot, but CMU has a lot of rounds, so you have a better shot there at this point in the game than you might at many other schools.
Thanks for the response. Does Tepper provide many recruiting opportunities for those interested in hedge funds? My post-MBA goal is to work for a long/short hedge fund after bschool. Can Tepper provide me with the opportunities that I want?
That's kind of EXACTLY my goal too, so I sure as hell hope so.
Here's the scoop... Most places don't have hedge funds that recruit on campus. I'm told there is an occasional fund or two, but it's rare. Sales and Trading at many I-banks do come to campus though. You get to leverage off of the recruiting that MSCF kids get, but you probably have to be able to compete math-wise.
With many of these schools (once you get past chicago, wharton, etc.), if you want to work at a fund, you're going to have to do it through networking.
