Uh oh, I just got an interview invite from Tepper. I'm already pretty much set on going to Ross. What do I do?

You can withdraw.

I could. But I've never been to the city of Pittsburgh before, and it might be nice to visit. And it's sort of within driving distance, too. OK, it's a 10-hour drive, but still. If they end up giving me a full ride, I would consider it. Decisions, decisions.

10 hours is a pretty LOOOOONG drive. I say do whatever you have time for, but a 20 hour round trip to go check out a city/school you most likely won't attend isn't worth the effort. Then again, you can somehow have the experience of your life and decide to change your mind, hahah!

In any case, congrats on the interview invite. Who'd you draw?

Thanks! Hmm, not sure what you mean by drawing someone. I was asked to contact Carol by phone or email. Does that mean she's going to be the person interviewing me?

I think there are other good reasons other the the $ to consider it. I visited the school sometime ago and I was impressed with what I saw. I would recommend that you interview at the school if you decide to go ahead. Flying there is really easy, you can catch the bus straight from the airport and it will drop you a couple of blocks from Tepper.

Why MBA, why Tepper? Talk about your career history. What do you plan to do when you're done with B-school, both short term and long term? How do you plan to be active in the Tepper community?

That was the jist of it.

You should go in full business professional. Some schools talk about not wearing a suit or Business Casual, CMU was not one of them in my experience. I interviewed as part of a weekend as was specifically suggested to bring a suit for the interview.

My interview was very basic with the usual MBA interview questions.

- Why do you want an MBA?
- Why do you want an MBA from Tepper?
- What about the Tepper school do you like?
- What will you contribute to the Tepper Community?
- Greatest strength/weakness.

I interviewed back in 10/2009, so I can't recall everything but it was a standard interview. There is also an interview database on accepted.com where people post the questions and the experiences they had at various schools (Tepper is one).

Key things I found are important:
- Emphasize that you like their small community.
- Do your research about the school. The Tepper program is slightly unique and very close knit. Fit is important so you should show that you fit in with Tepper.
- Relax ... its really not that intense of an interview.

Hey guys, which hotel did you stay at for the interview? If I decide to do the interview, I'm thinking of flying there on Sunday, do the interview on Monday and fly back on the same day. I'm thinking of taking the bus/shuttle from the airport to the hotel, which probably needs to be within walking distance of where the interview is going to be. Any suggestions? Looks like airfare is pretty cheap, and I may be able to get the whole thing done for under $250.

There's a wyndham right down forbes ave. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to Tepper. Walk through UPitt, right to CMU, and it's there. I actually used priceline and got it for $45 per night.

Milias, I'm actually a little curious, what would you need to see from CMU to sway you away from Ross? It seems like you're pretty set in your decision to go to Michigan (and I'm always one to favor keeping all options open - so I do think you should check it out), so what potentially make you switch?

I stayed as part of a prospective weekend and they put me up in a Holiday Inn downtown. There was a free shuttle to take you to the school and Taxi's were $5 from the hotel. I didn't pay for the hotel though.

If you ask them, they might have some special rates around the city.

There're things that Tepper is known for, such as small class size and reputation in technology, that I'm interested in. To be honest, I think the main thing that would sway me is how much scholarship money I would get, since I didn't get any from Ross. So if on my visit, I find that Tepper is comparable to Ross for the career opportunities that I want to pursue and I get a decent scholarship package, I could be swayed.

Man, I just looked at the shuttle service, and it takes you pretty much from end to end on their bus line from the airport to CMU!
