To all who have interviewed off-campus: How did you approach the selection of your interviewer (given that you had a choice)?Since I live in Houston, I don't really want to make a trip to Austin for an on-campus interview if I don't have to. I also feel that the admissions people see so many applicants that it's really hard to stand out, while an alumnus would be more sympathetic and ... not jaded?
There are 68 alumni in my area, so I have a lot of choices.
[*]Should I approach recent grads or older ones? I'm leaning towards recent since they were in my shoes not so long ago and would also be more insightful about the current state of the school.
[*]Should I go for somebody in my current industry, or the one I want to go into? Since I'd like to work in consulting after grad, I'm a little worried about interviewing with them now, since their selection process is so challenging.

I know in the end it's all a gamble and I just have to hope I find somebody compatible with me. However, I think with a smart choice of background, I can maximize my chances.
Thank you for your advice in advance!
