Went to MBA day in February on the 19th in an effort to get off of the waitlist. It looks like a difficult year for in-state males. I spoke with several MACC members who were optimistic that waitlist candidates would be admitted later this year. I've got my fingers crossed. This was my second visit to campus. While I have not been admitted yet, I do feel like it increased my chances of getting off the waitlist.

just out of curiosity, has there been any waitlists that have then gotten admitted?

Adcom said that they will be looking at waitlisted candidates @ least once a month starting mid-February. Realistically, there should be some movement starting mid-March. This information is based on adcom's feedback received @ Texas Friday. Hope this helps. The wait continues.

Btw, congrats to the recently admitted folks

thanks champ! that's good information. did they happen to mention how many people they have approximately on waitlist? or what the chances are after being waitlisted?

With MBA admissions, you really can not base everything on the scores. There are many factors at play, even yield control. There are a number of applicants with sub-700 scores that were accepted to McCombs. You'll never know how you will do unless you try.

JCTplus3, was this the event they have every Friday? I really hope you are correct in saying that waitlist candidates would be admitted later this year. Thanks for giving me some hope.. can only wait and see at this point but I'd love to attend McCombs

Do you mind if I ask you what your profile is like (pm?) ?

Considering that the average GMAT a safe guess would be roughly half of the class gets less than a 700, though I understand a couple (low) outliers could bring that figure down. I read somewhere, not sure if it was Texas though, that said something like, "We don't like people who have extremely high GMAT scores...we want people who will play nice and work well with the rest of the class." While that statement doesn't make much sense to me considering the rankings weight the GMAT heavily, maybe that has something to do with it?

I don't think it's "we don't like people with high gmat scores" I think rather it's we don't want to hurt our yield. When JCT initially got waitlisted he mentioned that his other schools were H/B/W and I believe asimov speculated that the waitlist decision might have come as a result of UT believing they were being used as a backup.

So it's now been 12 weeks since I submitted my app (12/2), 10 weeks since my last rec was received (12/14), and a month since my interview (1/29). I'm trying to be patient and have remained silent since my interview... is it worth asking questions to the adcom rep I had been communicating with before?

I very much don't want to come off as nagging, but I'm scared now that I missed something or that they'll think I've lost interest...

I wouldn't contact them. The 12 and 10 week time passage means nothing ... they don't consider your application for admission until they have everything in your portfolio, and that includes the interview. So really it's only been a month. I think only 2 people from this group have been admitted that have interviewed in February, and it seems from the stats on the site that people usually find out between 1 and 2 months after their interview, so you're actually at the beginning of that wait period, not the end. I interviewed on Feb 1, and I am expecting to hear anytime from this week on ... I really wasn't expecting to hear at all before now.

Nagging them will only make you stick out as negative, especially at this point. Keep holding on for another month at least! Good luck!

I agree. In retrospect that was a bad decision. I might not have faired much better if I had not listed H/B/W due to the high number of in-state applicants. One thing about Texas is that they appear to try to fill limited slots with people who really want to go there. I am thankful for a WL instead of a ding.

Did not ask about the number of waitlisted candidates so can't help much there. The adcom is waiting to see the profile of the incoming class. Based on that they will determine what people they want to accept from the waitlist. That's obviously a time consuming activity, but it is what it is....

Also, I agree with what was mentioned earlier on here that McCombs wants students that are very enthusiastic about the program.

I'm still waiting to even get an interview invite...application completed (technically) end of January.

Status still "forwarded to committee". Here's to hoping...
