for those that applied in round 1, will they let you know if you did not receive a scholarship? or do they only inform those that actually did get a scholarship?

Only if you receive one do they send notification. If you are facing a deadline you can ask them early, otherwise the admit letter said it would be a couple of weeks. I had a deadline at another school so I inquired. Did not receive one but with in-state tuition I'm already getting a discount I suppose. There are also continuing student scholarships based on academic performance after the first year.

Random question here...

I've seen a lot of interview invites and acceptances come out on weekends - does the admit committee work weekends, or are the notifications randomly generated/sent?

Having gone through all the posts till-date it seems to me that the interview invites for R2 are over. I am not sure whether I should even bother expecting an invite now, or just assume its a plain ding. I applied on Jan 15th and my application went under review in the second week of Feb. I would appreciate it if anyone would be able to throw some light on that.

Hang in there. They process the apps the order they were received. I submitted 1/15 and it went under review around 1/28 and I just got my invite 3/10 so you could still be alive. It seems as though all decisions (at least domestic) will be made by 4/1 so there is still hope.

Thanks alot popper! Feels positive to see that there have been people who have had such long gaps between the day their app went under review and they got their interview invite. All the best for your Interview !

no problem - I interviewed two days after the invite (I'm in argentina) so it's a pretty quick process. now back to waiting on all of the remaining decisions...best of luck.

Anyone know how and when the background check process is conducted at UT Austin? Is it after I put down the deposit? Anyone already go through this process from R1? Some of the other schools have matriculants pay a separate fee to conduct the background check through a service like Kroll, but I didn't see any mention of the process on the admitted students website.

I don't think they do one at the level of Kroll, nor do they mention it in any of their materials. That would be something you would have to consent to separately. Outside of a credit check for finaid purposes I don't think they do much of anything. Though if you are worried about something in particular you might want to come clean ahead of time...

Thanks for the insight. I was specifically wondering if we had to pay an additional fee or not like at Wharton or NYU, but I guess not.
