Thanks again guys- need your help with my interviewer situation. There are THREE alums within a 20 mile radius here. One has a broken email address that bounced (though he was perfect- similar background, went to the same school as I did for my MS). Of the other 2, one has founded a boutique consulting firm that seems to employ a lot of H/W graduates. I am looking to get into consulting post MBA, so am a little skeptical about interviewing with someone who might be VERY knowledgable about my industry/function of interest as he might end up grilling me too much on my goals. The last interviewer, I have no idea.
So...would you say go with the boutique consulting firm guy or on-campus? Any insights on interviewing with someone who is in the same field as your post-mba goals?
Getting interviewed by a person who has background similar to what you want to do post MBA can be a good thing if you prepare well. It will show your enthusiasm, your research skills, inclination and aptitude to certain extent. He might give a good feedback based on your conversation. On the other hand, if you don't do your homework, it can turn against you.
I have witnessed it myself while interviewing for a poduct manager(PM) position in a software firm. Being from a software background, I did my due research eventhough haven't worked in PM area. Everyone I interviewed was impressed.
So if I were you, definitely would go for the boutique consulting guy, but with proper preparation and tools before entering the war field.
