Hi Guys,
Just finished my Wharton interview today. I am posting a small debrief. Given that today is the last day, I hope it will be helpful for R2 applicants.
My interviewer was a 1974 graduate from Wharton. He was a highly accomplished person, retired at 55 after being the CEO for 7 years.
We began by discussing my extra curricular activities straight away, which caused me slightly off-guard. I was expecting a background question like Walk me through your resume. It also proved that my interviewer had gone through my resume quite thoroughly, as I saw my resume on his desk, all dirty with pencil marks.
Second, he asked me a little bit about my family, I used this question to explain in detail my upbringing and my education.
Next he asked, how did I become a team leader so fast and what were the challenges with leading a team of older, more senior engineers. I used this question to highlight my appraisals at workplace and positive feedback from clients.
Then he moved into the expected path.
Why MBA and Why Wharton?
Asked me what my team members thought that my strengths and weaknesses were.
Did I bend rules to achieve an objective?
If he visited Wharton Graduation ceremony in 2011, what will my team members say that my contribution to their Wharton experience was?
Then we moved into more interactive conversation about my goals, regarding the current economic situation and its impact on my target industry. Ended with my questions for him and if I added to add something to my application.
Yes, he also asked me if there were any questions that I had prepared for, but were not asked.
All in all, a very positive and relaxed experience.
