Count me in for R2.

Question: Essay 1 of the application asks me to talk about how I see the Wharton MBA fit into my medium-long term goals. Does the essay expect to also talk about what I would bring to the table in the classroom though it doesnt ask for it explicitly? Or do I talk only about what I gain from it?

This is just my take, but I think you want to absolutely make sure you answer the question. Therefore, answer how you see the Wharton MBA fitting into your medium-long term goals. e.g. how will Wharton get you where you want to be? Answering that is the critical component of that question, if you have enough room to show how not only Wharton will help you, but also how you will contribute to Wharton, then by all means, go for it, but make sure you answer the question explicitly.. just my take. Good luck!

I had my interview recently. It was pretty typical bschool interview, focusing on all major points from resume- professional/community service and then in depth discussion on goals and why Wharton. It lasted an hour. The interviewer took time to really understand my point of view, asking follow up questions and making notes. Hopefully I've impressed :-) Fingers crossed.

historically about 40% invite and then pick 30% from that.
as per hbsguru, this year they have invited much less so better chance of offer after interview. no one knows any real stats though. gmatclub is filled with super applicants, hence the better % :-)

Interesting. Thanks Praz. I pulled up the 2008 report.

Seems McK held steady at 50 Recruits, but
BCG went from 43 to 31
Bain went from 36 to 18
GS went from 29 to 9

I was waiting for it for long!
One thing to note is top employers filled 250 of the 550 offers. So wonder what kind of companies recruited the other 300. I love how Kellogg gives so much details, wonder why no one emulates.

Anyone else who applied R1 feeling like if they get into Wharton they're done?? I had originally planned to do three more apps round 2 (HBS, MIT and Haas(R3)), but after interviewing out there and Booth earlier this week and really feeling like both programs are the right fit, I'm rapidly losing my motivation to think about R2 apps. For whatever reason I'm just not in love with HBS - case method does not interest me at all. I know it's a great school but I just don't think I could get nearly as much out of an HBS education as I could from Wharton, Chicago, MIT, etc. Obviously all this is predicated on me getting in somewhere R1, so I really probably should put my head down and write some essays for the R2 apps, but it's hard to do without being really excited about the programs. Anyone else having similar thoughts??

I can relate to what you're saying. I'm working on Sloan and Haas apps right now and it is hard to focus especially with interview preparations. I'm still really excited about both programs, but it's hard not to get ahead of myself with the three apps I already submitted, esp. with all the work that went into it. Maybe a better way to look at it would be, would you still want to go to school in the fall if in the worst case both Wharton and Booth are dings? If so, then the unpredictability of the admissions process probably means applying to at least two more places to hedge your bets. Depending on how your R1 apps went, applying to MIT/HBS in R2 and Haas R3 sounds more than doable. Sounds like you're not really excited about HBS though so that's a lot of work if you can't really see yourself there. I decided not to apply in large part because of the 100% case study factor. Good luck!

Depends on whether you want to visit a core class or elective.
If you want to see the core experience, I heard competitive strategy being recommended a lot by the current students. I also heard them say stay away from Accounting.

lurker here. Praz, didn't you say you got accepted for ED to CBS? I remember browsing the CBS thread and seeing that you got in.

Are you planning on ditching the deposit if you get into wharton?

Just curious, wondering how this whole ED process at CBS works.

No they invite 30% of applicant pool for interview. And then extend offers to 50% of interviewed candidates so your chances are 50:50

@gregarious - yep, thanks. i know you're right, there's definitely a good chance i'll get dinged at both programs in which case it's probably a good idea to have my R2 apps basically ready to go, so that the tone of my essays doesn't get colored by the fact that i just got a couple of REJECTS. also, starting to feel the urge that i need to get going on CFA L3 stuff, so i really need to bang these out soon. oh well, another month of introspection i guess.
