Losing faith....too drastic a reaction I think, and most probably temporary

But all in all, I thought I had a good profile:

Manager in Risk Analytics for Citigroup (3.5 yrs now)
Associate Consultant with Kanbay (2+ yrs)
Online journalist with numerous articles on Net (Google search will reveal)
Have covered Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi where Nano was launched
Social work - Tsunami relief, flood relief, some other activities - Bharat Sevashram, company CSR
Entepreneurship - Partner in content management firm
Extra Currics - Quite a good quizzer and debater. Also a science fiction writer looking for publsihers.
Competent bodybuilder (max bench press 400 pounds )
Krav Maga (Israeli martial art) practitioner and trainer
Member of high-IQ societies Mensa, Triple Nine, ISPE
X, XII - 92.4%, 91.5% - best all round student in West Bengal (2000)
College president, BE (IT) CGPA 8.34
GMAT - 750

And I was especially happy with my Wharton essays.
I just hope Kellogg doesn't disappoint me as well...

Hey, didn't know Sourya was a girl's name...
The name comes from the Sanskrit word "Shaurya" meaning valor...

And yeah, I AM stressed up....with HBS and Wharton dings and no response from Kellogg, I have every reason to be

Haha. A girl w/ max bench press 400lbs. LOL. But best of luck guys... my guess is profiles like these will get picked up somewhere pretty solid.

Sorry, you do have impressive profile. I think sometimes it just bad luck.

Just got dinged as well. I've accepted that I'm not competitive to the places I want to go this year. Guess next year it is.

Thanks for all the support, everyone.

Assuming my luck continues this way and I don't get an admit this year, how do you guys think I can enhance my profile in one year? I have two ideas:
1. Pass CFA Level 1.
2. Get my science fiction short stories published . :-D

Also, I have read a lot about several M7 schools trending towards younger applicants. Considering I am 28 today, what schools I shouldn't even think of next year?

One more thing...I took my GMAT with only 11 days' prep, and had a small panic attack the night before resulting in only 4 hours of sleep. I believe I can improve on this with another try, say 780. Will that help, considering many of the Indian applicants have ridiculously high scores? Notwithstanding the assertion by schools that all apps are treated equally, we can safely assume the existence of country and region-specific quotas.

I think it's best to try and realize that Wharton wouldn't have been a good place for us if they didn't see the value in our profiles enough to grant an interview. I don't want to be in a place where I'm not valued or wanted, you know? Hopefully everyone has at least one option at the end of the R1 process...best.

Well, I would love to believe that but I think i should also entertain the notion that perhaps, my profile and essays weren't good enough. And going by my axiom of hoping for the best and preparing for the worst, I would also like to know how to make my profile "un-rejectable" by the top schools if I don't get an admit this year...

I really don't think there is any significant upside to taking the GMAT again if you've got a 750. An improved score will only give you a very marginal improvement to your candidacy, if any at all (in my opinion). In addition to wasting time that could be better spent, you might actually damage your application for next year, as adcom might wonder about your ability to prioritize important things. Honestly, I would not even consider retaking a 750 for a second. It's really not going to make much difference.

As for the CFA - I'm certainly no expert in this area, but I don't think you'll get much bang for that either, although potentially more than a GMAT retake. I would say that if you were going to do it anyways for your career or personal development, go for it - it might help a little. But don't go through that pain for a b-school reapplication. If it's to further your career, that's a different matter.

If it were me, I'd find some interesting EC to get heavily involved in, and try to get more responsibility at work. In my opinion, those two things will give you war more mileage than more test scores. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it.

Since the reapplicant essay invariably asks "how have you improved yourself in the last one year", do you think additional job responsibilities and ECs are enough? I think I have a respectable amount of both...I am especially looking for a "killer app" to my app :-D . Tell me, especially those from the US, what kind of ECs and social work are considered really great there?

you should also refrain from bragging about high-iq societies. I am not sure if you put that on your resume or essays or anything but it could rub people the wrong way (mensa, triple-9, etc).

The CFA is extremely time consuming and the pass rate is pretty low for level 1 - it may make more sense to concentrate on other things. It probably makes more sense for someone with low quant scores or a non-traditional background.

Does anyone have a sense of how schools view the CFA - curious for myself too since I am in the program

Either way it will be difficult to be actively involved in any ECs if you are locked in your room studying for three months...
