Anyone have any thoughts on my question below?

cletuscassidy
Hey guys--

I got waitlisted too. My weakness is definitely my quant score (which was a 41 -- 60%). Do you think Wharton's prohibition on doing anything while on the waitlist includes retaking the GMAT?

It's kind of tough to say considering we aren't evaluating your entire profile and more specifically your academic records. If you did well in quantitative courses, then perhaps that wasn't the case, and perhaps it could have been your essays or work experience. It could also have nothing to do with you having a "red flag", and rather their decision could have been made relative to people with similar backgrounds that just had more experience, extra cirriculars, etc..

Does anyone know when we can expect to find out about decisions for R2? I'm hoping some time in February.

We should know all decisions by March 26, but sometime between the submit deadline (Jan. 6) and March 26 they will be sending out interview invites. Last year, (I think--feel free to correct me if anyone made more detailed notes from last year's thread) R2 interview invites came between ~Jan 22 and ~Feb. 19 and (most? all?) people found out if they were waitlisted or dinged without an interview by Feb. 19 as well. March 26 was for people who hadn't heard anything or who had interviewed to hear a final decision.

Thanks, but I was actually asking whether anyone thought retaking the GMAT would count as submitting additional materials to the admissions committee and would therefore violate Wharton's prohibition on waitlisters providing additional information. I should have been more clear.

I based it off an example where a bunch of classmates and I funded a fellowship at my undergrad college. What were we looking for, what would be appropriate, what could we afford, and how would we want the recipient to give something in return? I would be as creative as possible.

Good suggestion mavaali!

I am all for being creative as well. In addition, you may like to consider if you would target a certain special group (e.g. candidates from certain geographies, under-represented background, or a particular area of work) for the fellowship, and why. Also, for the proposed fellowship amount, in which area will it benefit the special group. Just my 2 cents' worth.

By the way, I'm officially in R2. Submitted my application 2 weeks ago and all recommendation letters have just been submitted.

All the best to all!!!

For the failure, I stuck to what I learned with a quick mention of how I'm applying these lessons to my life presently.

For the fellowship essay, I used part of it to toot my own horn (I didn't have anywhere else in the application to discuss my community engagement) by discussing a topic I'm passionate about, what I've done to engage in it, and used this to substantiate why I'm looking for these same attributes in fellowship applicants, how I'd evaluate them, and the award amount.

I am having difficulties deciding between two events
1) Happened during school years 12 years ago, but a great story and a lot to write about. Failed in school (was a real bum) and then went on to come first in school.
2) My first semester at UW Madison where i messed up grades and research and then recovered in next sem.

1st was truly life changing and 2nd not so much.

Thank you all!

I'd be careful about going that far back. If all of your other essays cover professional and personal characteristics, and make you well rounded, maybe then. Going back before your college years may appear like a cop-out. Everyone makes mistakes in their teens, and surely you have done something big enough to learn from and much more recent as well (meaning last 5 or so years). I look at that essay from this angle - the more you have done that requires courage, teaches you to manage risk, and go beyond your comfort zone, the more it is something worthwhile even if you fail.

Alright folks.. first post on the forum - count me in for wharton r2!

Here's wishing everybody a great new year and tons of admits!

PS: @nath99 - i agree with mbagirl. IMHO, i would dig deep into the college experience and find nuances that would be interesting for the adcom.

Hey, has anyone else had problems getting emails from the Wharton app?

Both of my recommenders have submitted my recommendations but in neither case did I get an email notifying me that they had submitted, whereas with every other school I've applied/am applying to I got a notification for each submitted rec. Yes, I've checked my spam folder, it's not there. Yes, I've checked my profile to make sure the email address is correct.

Just want to know if I should try to talk to ApplyYourself Tech support once my app is in to make sure I'll be getting all the right notices etc.

LB20: I didn't get an email either. Seems like there might be some issue.

One of my Recs submitted it, but I never got the confirmation e-mail. However, if you check your app status, it should show as submitted.

Right, yeah, that's how I knew they'd submitted. I hope that doesn't mean I won't be getting status updates once I do actually submit my app--last thing I want to do is have to log-in all the time to check up on the app. Although, let's be honest, I'll probably be doing that anyway...
