Let me clarify. From what I gathered:

Calls will be made until the end of the day (5PM CT)
Online status will change at 9AM sharp (CT). Emails will generate once this change goes through. You will receive calls after online status changes because they don't have enough people to call everyone by 9AM (CT) of that day.

FYI - Admissions emailed me today to say that the email I got stating my application went "Complete", just a few days ago was a computer glitch, and that all decisions would be released on the 18th.

I'm on the west coast and last year the acceptance call got me out of bed. I'm not claiming to be an early riser, but the call was definitely in the AM.

Wouldn't that be a ton of admit calls to make in 1 day?

Some people from last yr's thread said calls start a day before online status change (D-Day) and calls are made till the end of D-Day.

I don't think they have to call everyone on the day of. They can always congratulate admit after D-Day. Other schools do that. With a class of 500, we are looking at 250 calls max for R1. That's doable.

Last year, adcoms said all decisions would be released on 12/19/07. Admit calls started going out 12/18/07 at 2:00 p.m. Chicago time for a few hours. Dings and waitlists were then updated in the system as of 9:00 a.m. Chicago time on 12/19/07. I don't believe any admits were sent out on 12/19/07.

This year, the adcoms have said all decisions will be released on 12/18/08. Therefore, I am assuming admit calls will start going out on 12/17/08 at 2 p.m. Chicago time.

An adcom member confirmed on the message boards on Chicago's website that they will start making calls on the 17th.

More than 250 calls. I would say closer to 400 -- Chicago has 60%ish yield.

well, I will need to power down my cell phone by about 5:30 pm eastern tomorrow as I leave to India. It's a long flight as is but is going to seem so much longer if I don't hear before then.

I don't know whether I believe that. Everyone last year reported dings at 9 am on decision day that did not get an admit the day before. If I do not get a call today/tom , I will be going to bed tom night thinking I got rejected
