Okay, the public transport map is a mess. I am staying at a friend's place (near Vernon Hills) on Friday night, and I have an interview on Saturday afternoon. It appears that, in the morning, I can take Metra at the Vernon Hills station (MCS) to the Union station and then take ME (From the Millennium station) to 59th street. Metra system map - https://metrarail.com/System_map/index.html.

Chicago experts (rhyme?), is this the way to go? How do I travel between Union station and Millennium station?

Rhyme,

I picked 25th & a slot in the afternoon. If you are around, I would love to meet up. Interviews do take precedence over everything else :)
Since I am flying into MDW only at 10, I probably won't be able to fit in a class. I did attend one on my last visit, so I would like interact with students a lot more this time.

I'll let ya know... I'll either be free all day or i'll be on the east coast. Just depends what schedule I get with these guys. Course, I'm waiting to hear from another firm tonight which might change things.

if you're at the Union Station/Millenium station area, I would try to find the #6 Jackson Park Express. Drops you off 1 block from the metra station, and I think it comes more often. Metra is good too though.

The schools are at opposite ends of the city. Personally, I think you're best bet is staying in the loop/mag mile area as it is about halfway between both of them. That said, it's still a long train or bus ride to either school from there.

Congrats to all who got interviews. For those of you interviewing on the 16th - hope to see you there tomorrow (mine is at 1:30) and good luck!!! I got good news of an acceptance and scholarship for an MA in international relations program I applied to, so concentrating on prepping for tomorrow's interview is a chore tonight...

Here is a good link that I use regularly for travel in the city:

I'd agree on the Jackson Park Express (#6) being your best bet from downtown.

if you want to save money, the University of Chicago International House rents out simple dorm rooms for $60-70/night. Very economical. Do be warned that it takes about 2 hours to get to Evanston/Kellogg with public transport, but your visit to GSB will be easy. Everything else is over $100/night.

Just had my interview at Starbucks. 1 hours 15 minutes long. It was grueling. :(

My interviewer briefly discussed where he stayed (5 minutes away from Starbucks) and jumped straight into the interview.

1. Tell me about yourself.
2. What are your short term goals?
3. Why are those your short term goals?
4. Gave me brief case studies - because my short term goals were strategy consulting - i flopped on both case studies, definitely on the first because I didn't clarify enough. He mentioned he was only discussing them with me because I said I wanted to do strategy consulting.
5. Why Chicago?
6. What courses would I take in the University of Chicago (outside the GSB).
7. Strengths and Weaknesses.
8. Ethical dilemma
9. Went in about my current role, what do I do, gave examples about it.
10. What was the biggest mistake I've ever made? When did I realize it was a mistake?
11. What makes me think I have enough experience to go to Chicago (I have 3 years post graduations, 3 years pre graduation)
12. Went in on my extracurriculars - why? what do I do? what do they do? what would I change about it?

It's over and done with, I'm drained.... well, time to wait for the call :(

I will interview on campus. Should the professional resume be limited to one page. Can it be two pages?

Everyone I asked told me that the norm (whether you have 10 months of experience or 10 years) is one page.

Re: Calling Chicago GSB 2008 applicants [#permalink]
Well here is my interview debrief hot off the oven. I met my alum in Starbucks. Overall it was a relaxed interview with all the usual questions. My alumni was talkative and really took the time to explain about Chicago and the overall experience.

We started out by talking about his work in general and previous professional experiences.

I had all the usual questions.

Tell me about yourself and your career progress
Why MBA and Goals
Why Chicago
Biggest Professional Accomplishment and Why
Conflict situation and how did i manage it.
Leadership experiences
Explain a bit about my community work experience and what I hope to achieve in this aspect

Then I asked him about the activities he did in Chicago, difference between his expectations before the interview and actual experience.

The interview lasted for nearly 1 hour and 10 minutes. He had another girl to interview after me and it turns out that I knew this girl from university before.

Come on Chicago give me my first admit.
