Her responses in the thread are very confusing. She seems to say no everyone will be called before 9am on the 19th. But earlier say they aren't releasing decisions until the 19th. The first part leads one to think they would be calling people the day before and informing them if they got in...and if they dont get to you then you probably will find out via email or online status. (which I am sure everyone is going to be signing onto at 9:01)

I'm not quite sure how to interpret it either. However, this year seems to be progressing just like last year (rhyme said they moved up the decision release date and then started calling 2 days in advance), so I'll just assume that it's going to go exactly the same way (all the finance people here know that extrapolating past data into the future works perfectly :-D ). I guess if I don't get a call on Mon or Tues, I won't completely lose hope though.

Rhyme's post a couple days ago...

I'm leaving for Whistler tomorrow... I'll be back Sunday night, right before d-day... so I get to watch the pandemonium which no doubt will ensue here on Monday morning. :) Good luck everyone, see you in a week!

So they may not want the info out there but I would bet Rhyme has heard rumors around campus as to when they will be making calls. Sure does sound like Monday they will be starting to ring people.

They seem to want to stick to their communicated dates up until they change it (at the last moment). They were saying that decisions wouldn't be released until Jan 3 up until the day they changed it to the 19th. I would venture a guess that they will call ahead of time (I hope they do because I scheduled my job performance review on the 18th under the assumption that I would find out on the 17th).

How many people just had a heart attack when they saw the email from Chicago GSB for Rose's chat??

They need to not send any more emails unless it is a decision!

One advantage of not being able to check my emails at work. Dont worry about emails until next Wed...and hopefully we all get a call on Monday.

Not encouraging... I'm guessing there is going to be a substantial waitlist for R1 given how many they interviewed...

jack__Guest_: Is there a big increase in the number of round one applicants this year? Or the same as the numbers in the last year?

Eddie: There has been a substantial increase in applications for round 1. We anticipate the same for round 2.

They typically only accept 50% of interviewed candidates. They claim they interviewed 60% this year because it was so strong...much like their claiming they wouldnt move the date up, I tend to feel they aren't being 100% honest.

The WL wont grow much, if anything it could be smaller since they may anticipate a higher yeild. There will definitely be a lot more dings though. I think that will be the case all around. Unfortunately we applied in the most competitive year since the early 2000's, when acceptance rates at the top schools were in the teens.

50% of interviewed candidates accepted?? I thought the number was more like 30%.. Wouldn't 50% imply nearly a 30% acceptance rate given 60% interviewed? And yea, if they expect higher yield, I'd expect that percentage of interviewed candidates to go down to 25% or less

That is why I think the 60% interview number is inflated. They typically said they interview about 50% and admit 50% of those. A 25% acceptance rate is pretty much what most people think GSB has, it could be higher and thats why they dont publish it. However, this year it will probably be closer to 20% or less just by the increased volume.

Look at admissions411 and you can see there was a drop in the percent interviewed this year, though the site still has it pretty high. Just dont go back to 08 and look at the admit rate it will make you wish you applied R1 two years ago.

GSB interviews a TON of people, not to the extent Kellogg does but still a very high percent. Its not like MIT where they interview about 30% and accept 2/3rds of those people.

I think admissions 411 is reflective of GSB's situation. Even if # of applications went up, the # of interviews does not go up. Here is my hypothesis...

GSB interviews X no. of applicants out of Y applications.

This year applications increased significantly. But GSB is not going to increase # of interviews to cope up. They will still interview X # of applications, give or take 10% more...

That automatically shows a drop in interview invites....which is what admissions411 is showing

So going back to the point raised about waitlists.. I dont think much of it will happen.. waitlists will occur but the number is not going to go high..

my 2 cents..

neways next week at 9 am I will be experiencing my first heart palpitation...and possible cardiac arrest.. looking forward to that experience.

Best exchange of the whole chat…note this kid said Mr. in a pervious question.

Mechengineer__Guest_: Mr. Martinelli, what would be a typical class size in GSB like? On average, what is the percentage of international applicants who are accepted?

Rose: Okay -- just a clarification, it is Ms. Typically our international student body is around 1/3 of the entering class.
