Doesn't CBS have rolling admissions? If so, that 12 weeks is probably for the people who submitted on the deadline. If you submitted back in October then chances are you will find out pretty quickly.

It is rolling, and most likely you will not have to wait 12 weeks for a decision. Good job getting the application in early!

I sure hope so...but it looks like for the RD, they start reviewing the RD apps from Jan 9th. So, since we have submitted it early enough, we should hear earlier than the 12 week window...

I hope I get an interview invite atleast :P

For people still trying to finish their apps, do you know how stringent is Columbia as far as word count goes? Do they also allow a 10% variance?

Yes they do, I was over the word limit on all my essays, was called for an interview too....got dinged because of my GMAT.... its a great school but some how the people are a bit snooty... but hey that is Columbia, selective and they only accept 16% or something like that...

Good luck!

I am not sure if they have a hard and fast rule about word count overage. Give admissions a call; always a safe bet.

Since CBS doesn't give any feedback, how are you so sure, that it is your GMAT that killed the application?

Would be interested to know...

Sometimes it is easy to figure it out, and I know that CBS is a school that is very conscious about its stats....the interviewer really liked me.... though she did mention that my GMAT was quite low compared to what CBS accepts but thought that I should be accepted...so that was there...and I know 3 ALUMS, who were extremely focused on the GMAT...and said that CBS is very sensitive about the GMAT... I was at least happy that they called me for an interview so fast despite the competitive season:) I know my strengths and weaknesses;)

They haven't given me any feedback, I did contact them and the next day they told me that they will give me feedback over the the summer.....but I most likely know what the reason is.... so no complaints..

How did your interviewer know your GMAT score? Admissions purposefully does not share any pieces of your app with the person who interviews you? Did you tell them (bad move if you did)?

Well .. package is gone as of 2 days ago. Got the 12 weeks status change. I wrote them but can anyone confirm that I don't need to send my official transcripts if I sent the Excel ones? It was written in the forms, but I can't access them since it was submitted. ... Let the waiting begin.

She asked me, I had no choice.. I couldn't lie to her in her face:) Apparently she even asked me for my essays before I arrive for the interivew, but I pulled some story since I was traveling from Europe...

But I think Columbia always asks for the GMAT, 70% of the times, they do.... thats what all the ALUMs told me....and it was right this time;) I am over it, I have no bitter feelings because my priorities with the schools...

Good luck!

An excerprt from my CBS Interview -

Int: So how was your GMAT? What did you score?
Me: 710
Int: Hmm, I wonder why the avg scores in CBS and Stanford hover around 750

Result: DINGED

Well, dont want to read much into it, but looks like they are sensitive about the GMAT score -

But they DON'T! That is NOT true, according to CBS's own website! I am not suggesting for a minute that CBS is not GMAT happy - everybody knows they are. But on the website, here are the stats for the entering class of 2007: GMAT range of accepted students, 570-790, and middle 80%, 660-760. 750 average, my a**. In 2006, Columbia's average GMAT was 709. Again, uvs, if they did ding you because of your GMAT, I believe it, and you got screwed. But your interviewer had her head up her a**. Right, so in the past year, suddenly their GMAT average went up 40 points?? This, I'm not buying. Particularly since the jump would not have been something reasonable, like 660 to 680. 709 to 750?? Oh please.
