Hey all-

Got back from the Admit weekend last night. I thought it was a very intense and rewarding experience. The whole weekend was so well organized and professional (granted, it was my first Admit wekend), but comparing it to the other programs' Admissions events, Booth did an incredible job promoting camaraderie among the class and hitting all the critical points. They walked us through an extensive schedule from course curriculum overview, financial aid, to alumni and faculty presentations, student activities fair, and even housing tours in downtown Chicago. On the social side, they planned rather large parties every single night-- mind you Chicago bars close at 5am and the morning sessions started at 8:30-9:00am so you'll pick up the habit of red bull and coffee.

On an informal note, the class was incredibly diverse and impressive. I met students from Norway, Mexico, Sweden, Japan, just to name a few, but each had an incredible story. It definitely was a humbling experience. Also noteworthy is that the school is really trying to make a push for well-rounded students. A few current first years mentioned that the difference between the c/o 2010 and 2011 is evident as the school transitions from its stereotype. They said that the intense competition for the c/o 2012 will help secure an even more diverse and hollistic class.

It was a great experience and I met some truly amazing people. I hope you guys get to attend R2 admit weekend!

PS Rose is incredible. She is just as open/transparent and friendly in person as she is in the blogs.

Xerion
Does anybody have any insight of how the admit weekend went? Hope we can ALL go to the next one though!

the coffee/red bull comment here is extremely accurate. I had a great time and agree with everything the guy above has said BUT be warned R2s - admit weekend is a feat of endurance!

I have NO idea how I'm going to wait out the days till March 24. It seems like such a LOOOOOOOOOOONG wait right now!! Does Booth begin to release decisions a week ahead of the notification day like some other schools, or do they all go out on the same day?

Generally, decisions begin trickling out 2 days prior to the official date. Those who haven't heard by the evening prior to the official date are almost always waitlisted or denied.

Not always. I friend of mine was accepted last year in R2 and never got a call/email before notification date

Thanks, rhyme and Xerion! Thinking about the evening prior to the official date makes me even more nervous :(

Having experienced banking and hanging out with a bunch of bankers as well during the admit weekend, we were also surprised to be quite exhausted. There's a level of social/emotional intensity that we don't normally account for

True bankers don't have emotions and only socialize after 5.5 shots of Patron (and never before) so it makes sense that the bankers were completely befuddled and exhausted by the experience.

Thanks for the warning! If I get the opportunity to attend the next Admit weekend, I'll make sure to bring along a printer and binding machine (together with a few old Excel models in need of proper formatting) to get me through the rough patches between waking-up and my 5th shot of Patron.

sittingtight: What has been the change in demographic profile of applicants in the last two years (given the financial crisis and recession)?

Rose: Very interesting question. While there may have been some change in the applicant pool, the admitted class has remained pretty much the same.

---------

Re diversity, am I over-postulating if I am assuming that it is easier for internationals to be admitted to the program? Underlying assumption is that the number of international applications has dipped, and yet the class profile pretty much remains the same.

I.e. International = easier? (relative to the insanity of previous years of course)

She could have been referring to any number of demographics about the incoming class, including work experience (in terms of years, younger applicants vs. older applicants, or in terms of profile, type of industries, perhaps some more adversely affected by the financial crisis than others), domestic ethnicity, domestic and/or international applicants' gender (more/less male/female applicants), etc. etc.

She gave no color to her comment and ignored the lead by the asker. All she is saying, I believe, is that they have a class profile in mind and they let the envisioned class profile, rather than the actual applicant pool, dictate the actual 2012 class profile.

In fact, if you took her "may have" in the "it is entirely possible that there was" kind of sense, it could even indicate that Booth is ignoring/unconcerned with the actual break-out of the applicant pool because, so far, it hasn't affected their ability to maintain consistency in their actual class profile. But I sincerely doubt that they're ignoring the demographics.

Here's an interesting article about Booth and its application essays. The classic Booth PowerPoint essays may evolve into video essays or become a regular paper essay??? https://www.businessweek.com/print/bscho ... 528531.htm
