I think the 25% makes sense, given that Booth has witnessed an increase in applicants by 25%, and that they interview 50-60% of applicants (both figures for this year as said by Rose herself in either blog or chats)

Can I ask where you got the 25% increase in applicants? I don't think this is the case for 2010 admissions for three reasons:

1) I bet international applicants are less this year due to financial aid & visas being more difficult to receive.
2) People are more cognizant of not finding employment post graduation and so, if they have a job, they are more likely to keep it for now and not go to b-school.
3) There was a sense of panic last year. No one knew what the hell was going on and B-school was like a massive career put option. Lot of people were applying because no one knew if they would have a job in the coming months. This paranoia has largely subsided.

I know someone close to the admissions process at Kellogg and that person said admissions at Kellogg are actually slightly lower this year relative to last year because of these three items. To be honest it kind of makes sense to me.

Basically from Rose's blog/chat and from current students

RobertD,

Not sure why you assumed Financial Aid is more difficult to get for Internationals. Top Schools kept their FinAid/Loan plans steady through the crisis, and except Columbia, all the schools have very favorable plans. I can agree that job prospects could be a yellow light, but not sure how many internationals really factor that in when analyzing the prospect of doing a Top MBA...

Also, now that the end of the tunnel appears to be closer, more people are betting the next two years to go to school and come back to market when things start heating again...

That's because Kellogg applicants are in full panic mode. Kellogg started releasing the decisions a week ago (Kellogg's process is semi-rolling)

Hey SB,

Sorry to hear that, one of my friends got that one. He told me to push Admissions to get an interview for that fellowship but they replied that I was not eligible for any $$ in the first hand...

If it helps you, I will be paying full and being married there...so I will pile up debts like crazy...

Yessss... I am about to go make friends with my local bank manager.

Oh that's cool for your friend! Congratulate him from me, and tell him he owes me a beer, for being more 'sparkly' than me. :)

Agreed. I'm going to have a write an autobump script or something. Can't have these no-name third tier fly by night operations like Kellogg and Wharton on top of this thread.

Ha ha. By the time you write that script, I'll do it manually.

Rhyme,

What's the word on the Chi street about the R2 decisions? Any idea when they r gonna be released?

I know when, but still wanted to hear from you..

Alternatively, you could just tell the Booth adcom to change to a miserably prolonged and nerve wracking admit/wl/deny process like Kellogg. Then Booth thread would be more active.
