What happened last year?

I interviewed with an international student and let's just say we never got on the same page. The first question I was asked was what I do for fun and I responded that I am a Cubs season ticket holder and spend most of my summer at Wrigley. Response: What are the Cubs? From there I knew I was screwed.

Could'nt you ask the adcom for a re-interview?

Besides the fact that I've never heard of them accommodating such a request, I doubt that "we didn't hit it off" would be sufficient grounds for a re-interview anyway.

This might be a good time to point out that interviews are not phase gates - they are not make or break. Strong interviews won't get you in any more than a weak interview will keep you out. The interviewers comments simply become part of your file and are reviewed alongside everything else at committee.

Oh, now I'm with you. Well it's an interesting statistic but I agree maybe not so robust! Anyway I dunno if many people apply to Booth with less than 650 on the gmat.

A lot. More than you think.

Rhyme – from your previous experience, is Monday the last day that Chicago Booth will be handing out interview invites? Last year the mid-decision deadline was also set on Wednesday and pretty much nobody received an interview invite on the final Tuesday & Wednesday.

The waiting is killing me. Can’t really focus on work or anything else. Like most of the gmatclubers I was extremely confident on my overall chances for Booth. Really surprised I did not receive an invite YET! Hehe … have not given up hopes yet, but the odds are looking bad now.

Tired and brain dead … below are some stupid thoughts …
Gmatclub should open a betting house so that applicants can hedge their bets … Procedures are as follow:
1. An applicant that is applying to Chicago Booth R1 will submit his full application to the Gmatclub Betting Services (GBS)
2. GBS will calculate the odds and provide the candidate with betting odds against the candidate’s chances for an interview and/or acceptance.
3. An applicant will be able to bet against himself, and in the case of a ding, he/she will receive cash rewards.

Example:
Candidate A has GMAT of 780, 3.9 GPA from Harvard, great work experience etc. GBS will determine that his odds of receiving an interview are high, therefore for a $1000 bet, the candidate will receive $3500 if the he did not receive an interview.
I am ready to bet $250 against myself at this point … LOL.

Actually this might also help the applicants to get a real picture about the competition out there.
These odds should be based on the prev data as well as current year applicant pool. (assuming that many people submit to GBS)

just finished my Chicago interview in Shanghai with an alumni. Ordinary questions as you can imagine. Not sure what is the acceptance rate of all the interviewed candidates. Does anyone here have a sense about that? Besides, will all the interviewed candidates receive the final decision on the last day, or we may know the result earlier? Thanks! Good luck to all Chicago Booth applicants.

Weeksuper - About 40-50% of those interviewed will receive an offer. I have heard that they interview a larger number of candidates in China in order to weed out a significant number based on among others English proficiency. They should be notifying everyone around the same timeframe … you might have to wait for about a month in order to hear from Booth. Can someone else please confirm this?
Also, can you please list any interesting/unusual interview question that you were asked?

Turbo2008 - It's actually closer to the fact that they interview 40% and accept 50% of those (according to an admissions consultant I talked to). I would not think it would make sense for them to disproportionately interview candidates in China.

Anyone who has received an interview has met a benchmark criteria for TOEFL and GMAT verbal, and many have been schooled in English internationally or work with multinational companies. Interviewing more candidates would give China an unfair advantage.

All that to say that if you are Chinese and are selected to interview, I would NOT assume that it's because the standards by which you were given an interview were lower.

not sure about that tuck - what happened last year? if people got invites right up to the last minute then, then I guess we could see the same happen again.
