Thanks for reaching out. I think you answered the question yourself. You stated that Emory invited you, [but] Duke is harder to get into - as if the increased difficulty would make the visit better served at Duke. The truth is that visiting a campus doesn't move the needle ... unless you've been invited in which case it can make a big difference. Sure, its more marketing than anything else for Emory to invite you out, but this is a chance to show interest, to forge a connection with a member of the admissions team - it represents the maximum upside of a campus visit. Unless there is other info, the trips to Duke and UNC don't hold the same promise.
I would strongly urge you to take the trip to Atlanta and squeeze everything you can out of it. For Duke and UNC, simply use the Internet to "get to know" the school (online info session, web tours, chat rooms, student blogs, emailing club leaders, online guides, you name it) so you can showcase authentic fit in the application. Then, if you receive an interview or are admitted, you can make your move then, when the ROI is much higher.
