Hi, I personally believe that my profile is a good fit for Baker Program Master's in Real Estate. However, I had a slightly low GPA during my undergrad days (2.76-3 when converted from Indian CGPA). Can that hinder my chances at the program? Here is the rest of my profile:- Indian, Male, 22
- GRE: 320
- GPA: 2.76-3 (if converted from Indian CGPA) in Civil Engineering. My low GPA worries me considering many current students have super high GPAs. I was thinking I'd write an optional essay conveying the reason (mainly COVID and very stringent grading in my undergrad university) but I'm not sure if it can make much difference
- Work Experience: 2 years at the time of matriculation at one of the biggest IPCs (like JLL, CBRE, Knight Frank, Cushman, etc.) with advisory experience among a range of asset classes, mainly working with government organisations
- Extra-Curriculars: 14+ years of volunteering including being the pro-bono logistics head of a food bank, joint secretary of a civil engineering club
Hi
sandyringside,
Your GPA of 2.76-3.00, while lower than the average for top-tier programs like the Baker Program, is not necessarily a deal-breaker. Here's a breakdown of your profile and how to approach your application:
Strengths:
Relevant Work Experience: Two years of experience at a major IPC (JLL, CBRE, etc.) with advisory experience, especially with government organizations, is a significant strength. This demonstrates practical knowledge and valuable industry exposure.
Strong Extracurriculars: 14+ years of volunteering, including a leadership role as pro-bono logistics head of a food bank, showcases your commitment to community service and organizational skills.
GRE Score: Your GRE score of 320 is decent and can compensate for a lower GPA to some extent.
Addressing the GPA:
Optional Essay: Writing an optional essay to explain your GPA is crucial. Be honest and concise in explaining the factors that contributed to your lower GPA.
Focus on specific circumstances: Clearly articulate how COVID-19 impacted your academic performance.
Highlight your academic growth: If your GPA improved in later semesters, mention this as evidence of your academic potential.
Demonstrate resilience: Explain how you overcame challenges and developed valuable skills during your undergraduate studies.
While your GPA presents a challenge, your strong work experience, extracurriculars, and GRE score can compensate for it to some extent. By crafting a compelling application that effectively addresses your GPA and highlights your strengths, you can increase your chances of admission to the Baker Program.
