If you scored a better quant and verbal on one GMAT sitting but a better AWA and IR score on another GMAT sitting, do schools often take this into consideration and combine to only consider your best scores?

Example:

1st take: AWA 6, IR 8, GMAT 710
2nd take: AWA 6, IR 7, GMAT 770

Would schools count the higher IR? (Same with AWA).

PS: Sorry if the title is worded incorrectly...I wasn't sure how to concisely explain what I meant ><

If the scores you have mentioned are actual, then go ahead and apply with the second set - it's an excellent score and you have shown a considerable increase. So the 1-point difference in IR will not matter at all.

If these numbers are just for illustrative purposes, then you can apply with your higher GMAT score, hopefully with a balanced Quant/Verbal split. As long as you clear the 'hygiene mark' in IR and AWA (scores of 5 and 4 respectively), you shouldn't have a problem.

And no - schools will not let you pick different scores from different tests. They will, however, get to see your entire valid GMAT history.

Regards
Gowri

When I visited Tuck earlier in the year, someone raised this question at the info session. I could have misunderstood the answer, but here's what my impression was: Tuck will only credit your highest score, however it will look at your highest splits.
