White Canadian Male 26 years old
Education:
Business Administration at a Canadian University
Overall GPA: 2.8
1st Year: 2.09
2nd Year: 2.34
3rd Year: 3.37
4th Year: 3.57
As you can tell, I started out very poorly due to immaturity but finished strong in my junior and senior years.
Work Experience:
4 years doing a niche form of credit underwriting for an insurance company on the DOW. Included a heavy emphasis on client relationships as well as credit analysis. Earned two title change promotions during this period. Also earned an industry-specific designation during this time (niche designation, not widely recognized).
GMAT: 700

What type of schools would I be competitive for in the U.S.? I know how I would fare in Canada I think but I'm less clear on the U.S. primarily due to my low overall GPA (Canadian schools primarily look at last 2 years) and my uncommon work experience (rarely see profiles that come from insurance or credit underwriting).
Any advice is greatly appreciated as I explore my options.

This depends on several factors.
1) how much meaningful extracurricular activities do you have?
2) how much leadership have you shown in and outside of work?
3) what are your post-MBA goals?
It's a good thing that your GPA trended upward, but that 2.8 is hard to neglect. If you have time, I would highly recommend you doing an alternative transcript. By taking a few business courses (accounting, econ, statistics, etc) and getting A's in them show the AdComs that it truly was an immaturity that led to your sub-3 GPA. If you don't have time for this, no problem, but know that the 2.8 will certainly hinder your chances.
At this current stage, without knowing the answers to the three questions I posted, I suggest you look into the top 10-30 schools. It will undoubtedly vary between schools but schools in the top half of what I said will be harder and school on the bottom half will be easier. Go ahead and answer the questions and I'm sure we can narrow down the list a bit. (by the way, congrats on the 700 on GMAT!!)

Hi Stringer,
I agree with the above post, and I also want to emphasize that it's important to identify what you're interested in pursuing post-graduation and whether you're interested in a certain location in the US. There are great programs across the country, but if you know you'd like to end up in a certain field (for example in finance), some areas of the country, and some programs, will be better suited for you.
