hi there,
well, i am 24 and very confused.
to start off, im in the merchant navy with a work ex of almost 3yrs. the salary in my field is very high while job satisfaction is zero. I really want a career shift and MBA seems to me the best option. So, I gave the GMAT twice (640, 720-Q49,V38) and now sitting on a nice score.
My basic questions are
1. how do i know when is the right time to do an MBA?
2. i do not like my field of work at all but since it pays so well ($4500/month in India is a lot) i have invariably decided to continue until something concrete comes along. i need to get out of this and thus the desire for MBA. i presently work in the operations department and it will take me another 2-3 yrs to reach the management level. i am afraid that if i did continue for another 2-3 yrs, i would never be able to leave the navy since i would be earning around 9k/month then, and leaving such salary and getting back to studies would seem stupid.
3. i have taken part in many extra curricular activities in school as well as in college though i do not possess extraordinary leadership achievements to my credit. in spite of this, i believe i have potential. will the lack of sufficient leadership achievements affect my prospects?
4. my academics have been above average throughout and i have a CGPA of 8.7 in my undergrad. and since i have started working, have'nt been involved in any extra curricular activities. would my academics alone be useful in evaluating my candidacy for a good b-school?
5. how do i set about short-listing colleges to apply for? i have decided to take a yr to decide on applying to b-schools.
any help would be much appreciated!!!
thanks
iqbal
