I have a problem, in particular in math part. I would have done at least 3 or 5 questions correctly or faster had I been more careful. Sometimes it happened like 35+12=37; sometimes like forgetting the prerequisite a question laid. This happens in verbal part too. Most frustrating is I sometimes even got it right after I clicked yes.

Any suggestions everyone to reduce such nonsense mistakes?

Hi mcwoodhill,

There is nothing to worry about for this issue. You can easily get rid of this.
There are three major reasons for these silly mistakes:

1. Not enough practice
2. Not writing down things, instead solving them mentally
3. Not concentrating enough on the problem at hand.

Practice a lot and make sure that you are fully concentrated to the task at hand.

I used to make these type of careless mistakes too. This might sound stupid and probably isn't that helpful but I "scolded" myself. I can remember saying

"Dude - you're applying to top schools. If you want to actually get in, stop making f'n stupid errors."

Then I got a 50Q. I think subconsciously (to actually add some value to this reply) I just double checked the easy math that was in the early problems. Simple addition? It takes literally a second to do, why not just double check it? Sure it might be wasteful but if you can spend an extra 2 seconds on 41 problems, that's 1:20 of time. If it saves you three stupid mistakes that cost you wrong answers, it's probably worth it.
