Lasagna
As the title suggests.
I am In my second year of college and I want to build my profile. I am pursuing Chemical Engineering from a Tier 1 College in India and have experience in Product, Consulting and Business. Currently trying to build a Social Cause Startup as well. I am thinking of pursuing a Data Science minor in Climate and Health to learn ML, and get projects in sustainability. I am also working on a paper in Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
I wish to apply for the deferred MBA programmes from M7 schools. Finance is something I haven't explored yet and I wanted to know how much weight would only CFA level 1 put on my application.
Since I am in my second year, I will mostly give GMAT in my third year and even the CFA would have the same timeline, so I want to know if I would be taking a risk and should I just focus on GMAT/GRE instead.
Any advice is helpful thanks!
Hi
Lasagna,
Your profile is off to a strong start. A strong academic background from a Tier 1 engineering college, combined with diverse experiences is impressive.
Leveraging Your Strengths and Addressing Potential Weaknesses
1. Academic Excellence:
Maintain a strong GPA: Continue to excel academically, especially in quantitative subjects.
Pursue the Data Science Minor: This will enhance your technical skills and align well with current industry trends.
Consider Research Opportunities: Explore research opportunities in sustainable energy or climate change, which can further strengthen your profile.
2. Work Experience:
Internships and Projects: Seek internships at top consulting firms, tech companies, or sustainability-focused organizations.
Startup Experience: Your work on the social cause startup can be a significant asset. Focus on quantifiable achievements and leadership roles.
International Exposure: Consider international internships or study abroad programs to gain global perspective.
3. Extracurricular Activities:
Leadership Roles: Take on leadership positions in student organizations or clubs.
Community Engagement: Volunteer work or social initiatives can demonstrate your commitment to social impact.
Networking: Build relationships with industry professionals, alumni, and professors.
4. GMAT/GRE and CFA:
GMAT/GRE: Aim for a high score to demonstrate your quantitative and verbal abilities. A score in the 700s or higher would be ideal.
CFA Level 1: CFA can be a valuable credential to your profile. However, consider focusing on GMAT preparation and gaining practical experience.
By focusing on these areas and consistently working towards your goals, you can significantly increase your chances of admission to top-tier deferred MBA programs.
