Hi,
First, I apologize if this post is under the wrong heading. I already have a post under "Ask Hjort". But would appreciate your response. Thank you.
I plan to apply for Part Time MBA at Chicago GSB for the winter/spring session and if that does not work out then I would apply for the Weekend MBA at GSB next fall. I request you to please let me know of my chances:
Work Experience: 12 years in IT Consulting (past 6 years working for the largest computer/consulting company), 1 year in mining.
I have not been a manager nor lead more than one person but have been a mentor.
My performance at work as been consistenly rated to be among top performers in my peer group (called a 1 rating). Got promoted once in the past 6 years but did not apply for the next promotion yet.
GMAT: 660 (47Q, 35V) AWA 4.5 (I did not write much in 2nd essay as I was having a shaky start but I am confident my admin essays will be pretty good.
Passions: Marathoner, avid reader, Enjoy Volunteering for Salvation Army, United Way and a similar but smaller organization although no leadership roles.
Career Goals:
1. To learn the other aspects of consulting - process/strategy and become a more thorough consultant
2. After five more years experience along with an MBA, want to start my own consulting firm.
3. Someday, along the side, get into personal financial planning.
Other personal goal: Write a novel
If not GSB, my only other choice is to go to SMU or UT part-time since I live in Texas. But if I get GSB, I intend to move or travel there for every class.
Do you think it is worth the "effort" to move from Texas for GSB or the UT parttime will help me achieve my goals "just as well" ?
Please let me know of my chances at GSB. I love the faculty there and have also read a book by Gary S Becker. Would want to learn from such distinguished faculty.
I would sincerely appreciate any response. If you think I am falling short of something to get into GSB(gmat score?), please let me know.
Thanks so much and hats-off to the owners for having such a wonderful website.
Best Regards,
Nash
