That’s a very solid insight! Also, thanks for the clarification!
I was of the opinion that since pretty much all the top schools accept more than 60% of the interviewed candidates (per this data), this must mean that most of the scrutiny wound’ve happened pre-interview invite! Interesting!
That is exactly what I thought in the past as well but after working with the number of admissions directors and engaging with them about the process, and reflecting on it, I realize that a number of schools will spend 3 to 4 weeks to send out interview invites and then they’ll spend two months to roll out the decisions. It seems it would be illogical if they evaluated the entire profile of 1,000 people and then needed twice as much time to just add the interview component of 500 people they interviewed. And I knew that the evaluation time after the interviews was really busy and there’s a lot of work, so that means the pre-interview evaluation has to be weaker and more hasty simply by logic. I hope no school takes offense because I don’t mean any but I’m just looking at the number of hours in the day....
Then I realized the reality that the interview invites are done very hastily. Not always, but quite often. And that is why you have to apply to as many schools as you can in order to avoid being rejected hastily or take advantage of being included hastily. The only protection to that is applying in numbers unfortunately.
