College Credit for Prior Learning

Hi,
So I'm currently at NYU completing my ba in economics. I took time after high school to work and decided to return to college to complete my degree. As a result, I was admitted into NYU's non-traditional program for returning adults. Because of this, I'm able to receive college credit for "prior-learning." Essentially, I meet with a portfolio advisor who accesses my prior work experience to see if I've had enough experience doing something, say marketing, that would make me knowledgable enough to take an exam and write several essays on marketing that, if passed, would give me college credit for a marketing course (without having to pay for it). I would however not receive a "grade" for the course but instead simply credit for the course. On my transcript it will be outlined as marketing, credit for prior learning or something of the sort.
I spoke to HBS and they explained that I should outline this in my application somewhere. For those of you with experience, would taking a course or several courses (average student receives 12 units for prior learning and sometimes as many as 28 units) this way hurt me in my application?
Thanks!
