Does anyone know if there is any advantage at all to applying earlier in the RD cycle? Will you hear back earlier if you submit in say September for RD vs October or November?

Most likely in for RD, probably submit around November. I'm planning on going out to NYC to visit in October.

You won't necessarily get a result earlier (some do and some don't), but CBS does have a rolling admissions process so you do have a better chance at admittance if you apply earlier.

I actually recommend against applying before November for RD because adcom will wonder why you didn't apply ED instead. It will show a lack of interest and laziness on your part. It also doesn't help from a timeline standpoint because adcom doesn't even start reading RD applications until after Thanksgiving or so.
I will be reapplying to Columbia this year. I am still praying I get off the WL at NYU before but need to be realistic. This was my first application last year and I have improved greatly on what needs to be included. Hoping they are favorable to reapplicants but we shall see...
I have heard that CBS loves reapplicants. Not sure if I have the stats to back this.

Obviously my 1 anecdotal experience doesn't necessarily mean a lot, it worked for me. I had also heard that they like re-applicants and I also went from RD to ED when I reapplied. ED definitely increases your odds at CBS.

The answer is both yes and no. Admissions are rolling and applications are reviewed in the order they are received. However all ED applications are reviewed and a decision released before RD applicants are considered. So if you submit RD in September you will still not be reviewed until after all ED applications are done. However you will be one of the first RD applications reviewed. A lot of RD applicants submit in Oct and Nov and there becomes a large backlog. If you submit in Sept your application will go under review around Thanksgiving and you will have an interview invite or ding before Christmas. If you submit in early Nov you probably won't go under review until late Dec.

As long as you go in June/July there will be class visits available. I went in August and it happened to be between summer and fall semesters so there were no classes. But they did still have the admissions office meeting. They do a presentation on a weekly basis so I would try to schedule your visit for that day of the week.
Wanted to hear peoples thoughts on how important they think it is to visit Columbia prior to applying. Do you think this makes a tangible difference with respect to admission?

I think this is definitely important to visit the campus especially if you live in the US. It demonstrates your interest and motivation in attending a MBA program. FYI I live in Western Europe, and plan to visit the school in August.

If you can go I would. Is it required? No. Is it looked favorably upon? Yes. The official line is that it doesn't matter and they only track attendance for statistical purposes. The reality appears to be that Columbia is one of those schools (there are others) who really wants to know that you are dedicated to the school. The application will ask if you have visited campus, who you met with and what students you know personally. Also when you attend an information session you will fill out a card with all your information as well. Supposedly these have no bearing on your chances but it doesn't hurt to show that you are truly interested. Also CBS is in a unique environment. If you aren't from the city or used to living in a city CBS may or may not be a good fit for you and the only way to know for sure is to go visit the campus. Even if you are applying ED you can still visit. I went to campus in August last year so I could see it before submitting in Sept.

I'll be doing the reapp switch from RD to ED as well. Hopefully I can recapture your magic haha.
How numbers-based is CBS for JD/MBA applicants? I'm starting at the law school this fall and just started putting together my app (760/3.8). I have no real corporate-world work experience to speak of. Are my chances still good?
Also, what is the normal timeline? If I submit before the end of July (ED App, seeing as I'm already going to law school there), when should I hear back by?
