Hello guys,

I got the call yesterday!
I am 23/m/international.

Submitted: 8/19
Invited to interview: 9/15
Interviewed: 9/18
Accepted: 9/26

Just want to point out that the whole process is way less stressful than it seems when you read this forum. And when you get admitted, everything you had to go through becomes automatically so, so worth it. Stay confident, determined and excited -- don't settle for a we'll-see-what-happens type of attitude: picture yourself there already.

Good luck to all current applicants!!!

Congrats liquidsnake! +1
Can you please share some info on your b/g, GMAT,Interview experience etc. It'll benefit the forum I think!

I presume that you hardly had any WE (as you're just 23) :-) That's amazing!

do they review apps before rec letters are submitted?
No, they won't start evaluating it until it's complete.
Hi essaysnark. Does this mean that if the recommendation letters are received after the ED deadline, the application would have missed the ED deadline?

Hi essaysnark. Does this mean that if the recommendation letters are received after the ED deadline, the application would have missed the ED deadline?
Hi Vibhav - you'll need to ask Columbia Admissions about this. Many schools have a grace period after the deadline by which recommendations can come in. However, the Columbia application says this, which implies that they do not:

ColumbiaOnlineApp
Applications are not considered complete until all required information is submitted; this includes recommendations.

This is such an important issue that you need to get confirmation from the school on it directly.

J term applicant here: It's been six week since I submitted mine, and haven't heard anything yet - most likely a ding. Has anyone applied to J term and then reapplied to RD 2 same year and gotten accepted?

hailmary what would have you improved in that short time?
I don't think you would be able to show improvement and that is what the admissions want to see.
So you would probably get dinged again.
Maybe wait a year?

Hi all, I spoke with CBS admissions directly about this about a month back (as I had the same concern) and they will not review your application until the recommendation is submitted, however as long as you submit your application by the ED deadline, you will be included in the ED cycle. There is however a 6 week period from the date your application is submitted to the date it must be 100% complete, though it was unclear what happens if you don't meet that deadline.

I would also note that CBS admissions office has been extremely helpful and responsive on the multiple occasions that I have reached out for help and clarification over the past year. If you have questions, just email or call and ask.

Chains1910 and essaysnark thanks for your inputs. Fortunately my recommenders could submit within the deadline. However, interesting thing to wonder is since CBS is rolling admissions, does recommenders submitting late affect the position in the stack of ones application?

Yes. That's what they mean when they say that apps aren't considered complete until everything is in.

Yep, what EssaySnark said. The adcom I spoke with was very clear that they don't review your application until the recommendation is in.

It seems too quiet in here, not much interest in CBS this year? I'll be sending out my app today.

I'm international, 28 at matriculation, graduated in the US with 3.6 undergrad GPA (went for three years) but had 2.5 gpa in my first year at my local school. Explained in the essays. Also got a MS finance (3.4 GPA) and I've passed the CFA exams. I'll have 3 years of full time experience in leverage finance. GMAT 730 (Q50, V39). Also, started my business and ran it for 1 year. Hopefully my essays and recs are good.

CBS is the only school I'm applying to and that's because of the value investing focus. Fingers crossed.

Best of luck. I applied ED about 2 weeks ago so I'm right there with you. Also, FWIW I spoke with a recent CBS alum at an info session a couple weeks back who focused on value investing and works in wealth management now. He was wildly effusive about the program.

Totally agree about the VI program, it's the pretty much the only reason I want to do the MBA. Hopefully, didn't come off as too one-dimensional in my essays, though my passion for VI (and CBS) is off the charts :)

Has anyone got rejected in the Early Decision Round without an interview?

I submitted my application on 09/11 but my recommendation went in on 09/16. I am hoping to hear about either an interview or a rejection sometime late next week. I just wasn't sure if they notify rejections right away or wait till the end of ED round to notify all the rejections.

I know I sound very pessimistic but I was just curious LOL

Hey breakenter,

I'm in a pretty similar spot, 28 yo with good GPA from state school and CFA charter. 730 GMAT (Q48, V44) and very interested in the VIP. I applied ED and interviewed last week, if I get the call I'll share a little bit more abt my background for future applicants. Good luck bud!

From my discussions w/ admissions you should get an interview invite or rejection w/n 4 weeks. So since your recommendation went in 9/16, I expect you'll need to wait another few weeks before you find out. Either way, you definitely won't need to wait until the end of ED.
