Hey, guys! Just wondering
How are you guys deciding with the schools?
Like, according to QS rankings, or also considering the current geopolitical situations? Like in the UK, it is a recession, but as we also know, that, LBS and Imperial are very good schools for MIM (even according to the QS ranking)
For me if given a choice, I’d structure it by asking the first question : Where do I wanna work ?
1. If in consulting , finance or front office jobs : Do i know the native language ?
2. If its a back office job like data analysis then it should be okay even if you don’t know the native

Second question would be : Do I want it fast paced or I need time to structure ? Everyone has different networking speeds

Third and more important one : How are my financials? Since you are investing a huge amount for the course..how soon you want the break even point ?

And as far as I have seen working in Europe : The hiring process goes by the name of school not by rankings

HEC, ESSEC,ESCP, INSEAD , EDHEC, SDA Bocconi, RSM known for employers here ✔️ (but knowing the native language is always a plus here)

LBS, Imperial : If you are quick at networking coz the course is short and you need to manage a lot in that time frame( PS : Uk is going through a bit of recession so most of the roles offered are in the Middle East countries )

This is my current view..others can chip in/ agree or completely disagree 🙂

Best way is to either find ur resume twin who got the outcome u are wishing for or do a dive on linkedln
Filter people by school and see where they r placed this or last year
Thanks, Shail, agreed with it!!
I am also doing the same while researching schools. I am creating separate documents for each school and then filtering them out. I am bifurcating the alumni into recent graduates and those who passed out 3–4 years ago or before COVID. This helped me a lot in understanding what alumni are doing in the long term. However, it is still quite confusing to navigate the current scenario, because out of 10 recent graduates, only 1–2 have updated their job information, while the other 8 haven’t. And this trend was almost the same for every school.
Really tough scene I feel

Thanks a lot, Tonmoy, for this insight!! I feel these are all the considerations one should look for, because things are not ideal anywhere. So it depends which factor we should consider the most!!

Hi everyone, I want to ask an off-topic question: how can someone explain their gap year? In my case, after graduation, I worked for almost a year. This year, however, has been a gap year for me, and I haven’t done anything particularly significant to justify it. So, how should I answer questions about my gap year?
Did you do any volunteering , new skill(could be anything sports, photography, kayaking) , any certifications etc. ? If yes you can use them as clue points to justify the gap

Yes, I volunteered in a ngo, also interned in one. Did a couple of certification courses & learned swimming (if this counts). On top of that I traveled.
Yes ! They try to mention them on how you attended them during the course of the year...like if you did all these in 2 months and rest 10 nothing it would be difficult to justify(I wouldn’t assume you were idle for 10 months)

Also, it would be really good if you can mention how you use those certification courses, how they helped you, what challenges make you to do these courses!!

How do we justify a gap from work to prepare for GMAT and college applications ? ( I expect my gap to be for 4-6 months at best, as I’m currently working and studying)
4-6 months is fine ! If it’s more than 6 months then it is a concern

Got it. Is here anyone who has already given any business school interview before? If yes, then do they see your certificates? and ask you about the timeline?
They don’t see your certificates but you should be able to link them to your CV during your interview why you did them..like Six Sigma black belt cerification...boom 💥 but why ? Does your work required it at any point or just for the namesake
