People generally receive such emails from low ranked schools with scholarship offers, a direct admission, etc. We have never heard top schools such as Stanford, MIT, etc sending such unsolicited marketing emails. You would get such emails when you register on their sites for brochure, additional information, etc. Don't assign any level of importance to such emails. You can use them as a source of information. Your application will be reviewed when you submit it. GMAT is just one parameter in these applications. Spend a lot of time on your application essays. They would determine whether you will be shortlisted for an interview or not.
Good luck!
