(D) As compared to
(E) Comparing

This question is from the Question of the day forum. The ques has not been discussed there. I am unable to understand, how the answer is A and not B??

Can someone explain the difference between comparison , comparing and compare to/with ?

Both GmatNinja and Ron Purewal have mentioned time and again that ideally there is no difference between “compared to” and “compared with” and the usage is driven by the meaning in the sentence.

In C and E, comparing is used in the form of verb+ing modifier which modifies the whole clause coming after the comma.

Option B : use of in is not required

Option D : As is neither functioning here as conjunction or as preposition.

Option A is the most concise form
Using past participle form of compare —> compared with

could you help eliminate b . egmat says in comparison with is a correct idiom. not sure why it is wrong here.

There can only be one correct answer, which is usually the most concise one.

"Compared with" -> 2 words
"In comparison with" -> 3 words

So the first one is more concise and hence the preferable answer imo.
