A and B change the focus of the sentence to the experiment, which can't re-run itself.

C changes the statement to be passive and awkward

D verb tense is incorrect "had suggested"

E has no glaring issues, and is the most correct option

(A) experiment was suggested by the scientist to be re-run by his graduate​ students Incorrect as experiment can't get confounded by its results

(B) experiment was re-run by the graduate students at the suggestion of the scientist Incorrect as experiment can't get confounded by its results

(C) graduate students were suggested to re-run the experiment by the​ scientist Incorrect as it changes the meaning because it was the scientist who was confounded with the result and asked his students to rerun the experiment

(D) scientist had suggested his graduate students re-run the experiment Incorrect as no need to use Past Perfect

(E) scientist suggested that his graduate students re-run the experiment Correct
