Corporate Strategy - Majors and Industry Roles/Job Titles

Hello all!

For applicants who will be between 32-35 at graduation - what are the specializations/majors that would suit a role in corporate strategy?

I know some companies have rotational leadership development programs (please share any relevant names in the EPC or Energy sector if you can) - but what are some of the Job Titles that are common in this function post-MBA?

There are a lot of different roles that fit what you are looking for. For instance, a manager or senior manager, corporate strategy and business development. Manager, senior manager or director, strategic planning.

There are many resources on the web that help us to research roles in PE, Tech, Media, and ofc consulting and IB.

But nothing on the general purpose run of the mill management roles.

Would be good to find a website, brochure, something, anything - outside of informational interviews, that can spell out the job functions and hierarchy of such positions.

Even the recruitment process, job pros and cons - that sort of information isnt readily available.

You are most welcome. I certainly understand and agree this type of thing is hard to find. The good news is once you are at a school, there are a lot of internal resources, professional clubs and career services offices that can help you!

There aren’t too many rotational/ leadership type recruiters at B-schools and recruitment in such programs is typically in small numbers. (You should look at employment data from schools. However, not all reports will provide employer-level granularity.) And if you further niche it for a particular industry, it’ll be even less. BP offers one. GE offers, but I don’t think they offer for energy sector. Because they aren’t abundant, you may not find much information about functions/ designations. Super-niching may not be a good strategy, unless you've some solid path to it. Second, niche fields - unlike consulting, financial services etc. - may have issues on work-authorization front for international applicants.

Man, this sucks. Wish there was more information on career options post MBA for applicants - outside the obious tech, IB and consulting fields.

Tech, consulting, and financial services are major recruiters, and sponsoring international students is common for them. It's not that other industries don't sponsor. You just need to be sure where there aren't large numbers. As a rule of thumb, large organizations are more open to sponsoring.
